OREM—
Julianna Carter recorded a brace to lead the Utah Valley University women's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Cal State Northridge (CSUN) on Thursday night at Clyde Field.
The win extends UVU's home unbeaten streak to 10 games as the Wolverines improve to 2-0-2 on the season. CSUN falls to 1-4-0 with the loss.
"Any time you win a game at this level you have to be happy with the result, but we also judge ourselves on performance and this wasn't our best performance," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "We'll try to be better on Saturday."
Utah Valley got on the scoreboard in the 11th minute when
Kathryn Wynn sent a ball from in front of the box on the opposite side of the field to a streaking
Faith Webber down the field. Webber got a foot on the ball after a high bounce before the CSUN goalie could get to the ball. Webber then sent the ball to the right side to Carter who fired it into the back of the net to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead.
Heather Stainbrook passed the ball from past midfield to a racing Webber who caught up to the ball inside the box on the right side. She then fired a shot with her right foot past the CSUN keeper on the left side to give UVU a 2-0 advantage.
Webber fired a shot from just inside the left side of the box with her left foot towards the far post that deflected off the keeper in the 27th minute. Carter picked found the rebound and shot past the keeper to give the Wolverines a 3-0 lead.
CSUN's Cindy Arteaga scored in the 73rd minute to cut the UVU lead to a 3-1 advantage.
