Former Utah Valley forward Zahir Vazquez has signed a professional contract with Central Valley Fuego FC of the USL League One, the club announced Friday.
Vazquez played in 59 games for the Wolverines, including 14 starts. He scored six goals and seven assists over his four seasons with the team from 2018 to 2021. Prior to UVU, Vazquez attended the RSL Academy and prepped at Roy High School.
Central Valley Fuego FC is playing its inaugural season in the USL League One, the third tier of the United States' soccer pyramid. The Fuego are based out of Fresno, Calif., and play their home matches at Fresno State Soccer Stadium.The club currently sits in eighth place in the 11-team league with five matches left to play, but are just four points out of fourth place with a game in hand on the teams ahead of them.
The Fuego's next game is on Saturday against the league-leading Richmond Kickers. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. MDT and the match can be streamed on ESPN+.
