PROVO, Utah — Utah Valley University's Madison Clark finished second in the pentathlon and Neal Berkey is currently second in the heptathlon after the first day of the BYU Indoor Invitational at the Smith Fieldhouse.
Clark was third in the pentathlon in the Wolverines' first competition, also at BYU, in December. On Thursday, she was second in the high jump and fifth in the shot put while Meg Walker, who was fifth overall, was third in the long jump and fourth in the 800m.
Berkey posted the top mark in the long jump, was second in the high jump, third in the 60 meter race, and fifth in the shot put. The men's heptathlon has three remaining events scheduled for Friday starting at 1 p.m. MT.
Joshua Clark took fourth in the shot put (16.03m), besting his winning mark from December's meet of 15.50m, while Luis Diaz Bojorquez took sixth. Clark was seventh in the weight throw (15.96m), one spot behind Austin Kleinman (15.30m) and just in front of Diaz Bojorquez (14.75m), who was eighth.
On Friday, the jumps will be held starting with the men's long jump at 12:30 p.m. and the women's high jump at 1:30 p.m. The women's long jump will start at 2:15 p.m. with the men's high jump at 3 p.m. The men's and women's triple jump are the final events of the day and scheduled for a 3:15 p.m. start.
