Fargo, N.D. – Utah Valley wrestling dropped a dual to North Dakota State University, 31-12, on Sunday afternoon inside the Scheels Center. The Wolverines were aided by three consecutive victories from Jack Forbes, Chase Trussell, and Kase Mauger.
 
"We are happy for Chase getting a win over a ranked NDSU wrestler. These last four duals have been good for us. We have had many opportunities to wrestle higher ranked guys. This weekend a few of our guys broke through and earned big wins. With so many starters currently out, we have also had the opportunity to get other guys tough matches. This helps them see where they are against some of the top guys in the country. We expect them to stay positive and improve from these experiences," said UVU head coach Greg Williams.
 
The Bison won the afternoon's first five matches (149, 157, 165, 174, and 184). Utah Valley won three in a row at 197, 285, and 125.
 
Forbes secured the first dual victory of his UVU career over Spencer Mooberry. Forbes jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the first period after a pair of takedowns. In the second period, he increased his lead to 7-2 after an escape and a takedown. Mooberry scored an escape in the third period, as Forbes held on for the 8-3 victory after a riding time point.
 
The Wolverines held onto the momentum as Trussell fought to overtime after both he and No. 28 Juan Mora scored on escapes through the first three periods. Trussell took a 2-1 lead in the second overtime on an escape. Mora answered in the third overtime with an escape to even the match at 2-2. Trussell pulled out the victory by riding time. UVU had cut the NDSU lead down to 24-6.
 
Mauger finished off a perfect 2-0 weekend with a pin of Ryan Henningson. Mauger was leading 4-0 after a takedown and a two-point near fall. He won both matches by fall this weekend after pinning No. 21 Tanner Jordan on Friday night.
 
The Bison took the day's final two matches of the dual.
 
Utah Valley returns home on Friday, Jan. 27 to host duals against Snow College and Air Force. Snow College and Air Force will wrestle at 2:15 p.m. MT. UVU will hit the mat at 4:15 p.m. MT against Snow and 6:00 p.m. MT against Air Force.
