Utah Valley travels down I-15 to take on Southern Utah on Thursday night

UTAH VALLEY TRAVELS DOWN I-15 TO TAKE ON SOUTHERN UTAH ON THURSDAY NIGHT
  • Utah Valley continues WAC road play on Thursday as the team travels down I-15 to play in-state foe Southern Utah at the America First Events Center in Cedar City. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
     
  • Le'Tre Darthard matched a season high with 25 points and Trey Woodbury scored 19 to lead Utah Valley to a 76-74 road win at Grand Canyon on Saturday night at GCU Arena in Phoenix. Fuller was also in double figures with 10 points to go along with seven rebounds with two steals. Aziz Bandaogo had seven points and seven rebounds, while Blaze Nield had five points off the bench.
     
  • Utah Valley has won 13 of its last 14 games over a nearly two-month period. During that stretch, Utah Valley rattled off 11 straight wins. The 11-game streak began with an 88-78 win over Long Beach State on Dec. 3 and came to an end in an 85-80 loss to Seattle U on Jan. 14. UVU's 11-game streak is the second longest streak in school history. The 2011-12 team holds the longest streak in team history at 13 games.
     
  • Utah Valley's seven straight road wins is tied for the third-longest road win streak in the nation. The Wolverines have not lost a road game since falling at Boise State on Nov. 26. UVU's seven-game road win streak includes wins at BYU, Northern Arizona, Oregon, UT Arlington, UTRGV, California Baptist, and Grand Canyon.
     
  • Utah Valley is the top shot blocking team in the nation with 137 blocks and a 6.5 blocks per game average. The Wolverines sit ahead of Iona (6.2 bpg.), Illinois (6.1 bpg.), Washington (6.0 bpg.), Auburn (5.9), and Florida (5.9). Utah Valley also ranks fourth nationally in defensive rebounds per game (29.62) and ninth in rebounds per game (40.10).
     
  • Aziz Bandaogo ranks in the top-8 nationally in six statistical categories. He ranks fourth in blocks (58), sixth in rebounds (219), seventh in blocks per game (2.76), ninth in double doubles (10), 10th in rebounds per game (10.4), and 10th in defensive rebounds per game (7.62).

BROADCAST INFORMATION
Thursday night's game at Southern Utah will be broadcast live on the ESPN+, which is available on the ESPN+ app and at ESPNplus.com. The game will also be broadcast over the Utah County airwaves on ESPN 960 AM with Jim McCulloch on the call.

ABOUT SOUTHERN UTAH
Southern Utah enters Thursday's game with 14-7 overall record and a 6-2 record in WAC play. SUU holds a 9-1 record at home this season with its only blemish an 86-83 setback to Montana State on Nov. 30. The team is a perfect 4-0 at home in WAC play this season. SUU's two WAC losses came on the road at Tarleton and Seattle U. The Thunderbirds dropped an 81-60 decision at league leading Seattle U on Saturday night. Senior guard Tevian Jones recorded a double-double in the loss to Seattle with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Senior forward Maizen Fauseet was also in double figures with 16 points against the Redhawks. Jones leads the team in scoring at 19.6 points a game, which ranks 27th nationally. He also leads the team from long range with a 55-of-143 mark this season (38.5 percent) and fronts the squad with 32 steals. Senior guard Harrison Butler (11.6), Fausett (11.5), and sophomore center Jason Spurgin also average double figure scoring. Butler leads the team on the boards, pulling down 6.5 rebounds a game. As a team, SUU holds the second-best scoring offense in the nation, averaging 86.0 points a game. The team gets to the free throw line a lot, ranking eighth in the country in free throw attempts per game (24.4) and 10th in free throws made per game (39.33). 

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE THUNDERBIRDS
Utah Valley and Southern Utah will meet for the 12th time on the basketball hardwood. The game will mark the first meeting between the two teams as conference foes. SUU has won four straight over the Wolverines and holds a slight edge in the overall series, 5-4. UVU's last win in the series was an 85-75 win in Cedar City on Nov. 22, 2014. UVU holds an all-time 2-3 record against the Thunderbirds in Cedar City.

UTAH VALLEY PICKS UP SEVENTH STRAIGHT ROAD WIN AT GRAND CANYON

Le'Tre Darthard matched a season high with 25 points and Trey Woodbury scored 19 to lead Utah Valley to a 76-74 road win at Grand Canyon on Saturday night at GCU Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. 

A SCHOOL-RECORD SEVEN UVU PLAYERS REACH DOUBLE FIGURES IN 84-74 WIN OVER ACU

Utah Valley had a school-record seven players score in double figures in an 84-74 win over Abilene Christian on Jan. 18.  The Wolverines had seven players in double figures led by Tahj Small's 13 points off the bench. Justin Harmon tallied 12 points and Tim Ceaser scored 11 while Le'Tre Darthard, Trey Woodbury, Blaze Nield, and Bandaogo each had 10. 

SWAT VALLEY
As of Jan. 24, Utah Valley now leads the nation in both total blocks and blocks per game. The Wolverines lead the country with 137 blocks and lead the nation in blocks per game at 6.5.  Iona is second in the country at 6.2 blocks per game, followed by Illinois (6.1), Washington (6.0), Auburn (5.9), and Florida (5.9).

UTAH VALLEY WIN STREAK SNAPPED AT 11 GAMES, SECOND-LONGEST IN SCHOOL HISTORY
With its loss to Seattle U on Jan. 14, Utah Valley's win streak was snapped at 11 games. It was tied for the fourth-longest win streak in the nation at the time. The 11-game streak began with an 88-78 win over Long Beach State on Dec. 3 and came to an end in an 85-80 loss to Seattle U on Jan. 14. UTAH VALLEY HOLDS SECOND-BEST NCAA NET RATING IN THE WAC
As of Jan. 24, Utah Valley holds the second-best NCAA NET ranking in the Western Athletic Conference at No. 74. The Wolverines are second behind Sam Houston at No. 51. Seattle U is third (96), followed by Grand Canyon (103), Southern Utah (120), SFA (136), California Baptist (145), Utah Tech (187), Tarleton (199), New Mexico State (206), Abilene Christian (241), UTRGV (276), and UT Arlington (293).    

UTAH VALLEY TIED FOR THIRD-LONGEST ROAD WIN STREAK IN THE NATION AT SEVEN STRAIGHT
Utah Valley is tied with San Diego State for the third-longest road win streak in the nation at seven games. Utah Valley has not dropped a road game since dropping an 87-69 decision at Boise State on Nov. 26. Since the setback to BSU, Utah Valley has won six straight on the road, including wins at BYU, Northern Arizona, Oregon, UT Arlington, UTRGV, California Baptist, and Grand Canyon.

UTAH VALLEY SITS ATOP WAC RESUME SEEDING SYSTEM
As of Jan. 24, Utah Valley leads the WAC in the latest WAC resume seeding system standings. The WAC will be seeding its teams at the WAC Tournament based on an algorithm that will rate performance against all teams faced in the regular season, not just conference play, that will rank teams for the conference postseason tournament. Using this resume seeding system, teams will receive more credit by playing stronger opponents than if they play weaker opponents. WAC Commissioner Brian Thornton and WAC Associate Commissioner of Basketball Drew Speraw worked with Ken Pomeroy of kenpom.com to put together this formula.

BANDAOGO ONE OF NATION'S TOP SHOT BLOCKERS, QUICKLY MOVING UP UVU SINGLE SEASON BLOCKS CHART
Newcomer Aziz Bandaogo has already established himself as one of the top shot blockers in the nation. Bandaogo ranks fourth in the country in total blocks (58) and seventh in blocks per game (2.76). He is already up to third on the UVU single season blocks chart.

SEEING DOUBLE
Aziz Bandaogo is averaging a double double this season at 11.1 points and 10.4 rebounds a game. Bandaogo ranks ninth in the country with 10 double doubles this year. His 10.4 boards a game ranks him 10th nationally.

WE DUNK THE BALL
Utah Valley has 73 dunks over its 21 games this season (3.4 dunks per game) and Aziz Bandaogo is responsible for 39 of them. Justin Harmon has 11 dunks, followed by Trey Woodbury with eight. Tim Fuller has seven and Tim Ceaser has six. Ethan Potter and Tahj Small each have one. 

UTAH VALLEY SITS AT NO. 18 IN LATEST COLLEGEINSIDER.COM MID-MAJOR TOP-25 POLL
Despite its two wins last week, Utah Valley fell two spots in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 poll and now sit at No. 18. The Wolverines have defeated one team that is currently ranked in the poll in Sam Houston (No. 22). There are five WAC teams that are ranked in the latest poll, including Seattle U (11), Utah Valley (18), Sam Houston (22), Southern Utah (23), and Stephen F. Austin (25). 

DARTHARD'S 31 STRAIGHT FREE THROWS IS THIRD-BEST FREE THROW STREAK IN UVU HISTORY
Utah Valley's Le'Tre Darthard made 31 consecutive free throws before missing one against Seattle U on Jan. 14. He was just 10 free throws away from tying the UVU record of 41. Darthard held the longest free throw streak since Jake Toolson (2018-19) knocked down 41 straight free throws, which tied Holton Hunsaker's mark of 41 set during the 2011-12 season. He has now made 42 of his last 43 free throws.

THREE-POINT STREAKING
Utah Valley has now hit a three-point field goal in 237 straight games. The last time UVU played in a game without hitting a shot from beyond the arc was on Feb. 7, 2015 at Seattle U.

BANDAOGO JUST THE THIRD UVU PLAYER IN PROGRAM HISTORY TO AVERAGE 10 OR MORE REBOUNDS 
Utah Valley sophomore center Aziz Bandaogo is just the third player in UVU history to average 10 or more rebounds. Bandaogo currently ranks 10th nationally at 10.4 rebounds per game. He is only the second player in UVU history to average double digit rebounds and points in a season. Fardaws Aimaq is the only other player to average double figures in both points and rebounds per game.

DARTHARD FROM THREE!

Le'Tre Darthard knocked down his 100th career three-pointer on Jan. 5 at UT Arlington. He now ranks ninth all-time at UVU with 113 career made threes. Darthard ranks fifth all-time at UVU with a 40.1 percent clip from long range. He also ranks sixth all-time at UVU with an 84.1 percent career mark from the free throw line. Woodbury is nearing the top-10 mark in career threes as he ranks 11th all-time at UVU with 97 made threes.

FULLER HOUSE
Utah Valley senior forward Tim Fuller holds one of the top career field goal percentage marks in Utah Valley history. Fuller has connected on 164-of-271 shots from the field over his three seasons at UVU for a 60.5 percent mark, which ranks second all-time at UVU. Akolda Manyang holds the all-time career field goal percentage mark at 63.0 percent (150-of-238).

A DECEMBER TO REMEMBER

Utah Valley went a perfect 8-0 in the month of December. Utah Valley opened the month with an 88-78 win over Long Beach State on Dec. 3. The Wolverines then knocked off BYU, 75-60, and Northern Arizona, 80-75, on the road for wins number two and three. The Wolverines then returned home for finals week to knock off a pair of Non-DI opponents in SAGU American Indian College (100-54) and Antelope Valley (80-54). UVU then traveled to Eugene where it defeated Pac-12 foe Oregon, 77-72 before returning home to open WAC play with wins over Sam Houston (80-64) and Utah Tech (71-60).
