RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Utah Valley women's volleyball fell on Saturday afternoon 3-1 (25-20, 17-25, 21-25, 22-25) inside the Van Dyne Gym. Utah Valley (7-14, 4-6) got 15 kills from senior

Abbie Medeiros and sophomore
Avery Shewell each had double-doubles in the loss. Michalina Rola led CBU (12-9, 5-5) with a match-high 18 kills.
Utah Valley broke a 13-13 tie with a 3-0 run with kills from Ellis and Medeiros before
Hailey Cuff had a service ace to give UVU a lead at 16-13. The lead was pushed out to 21-16 with a 4-0 run as Ellis,
Kalea Kennedy, and Shewell had killed with a CBU attack error. The set ended with UVU outscoring California Baptist 4-1 for a 25-22 set victory. Kennedy led the Wolverines with five kills in the first set as Ellis and Shewell each added four.
California Baptist fought back and used a 9-1 run to take a commanding 18-6 lead. Utah Valley started to rally after a CBU service error and kills from Ellis and Shewell to make it 18-9, the comeback continued after a kill from
Madi Standifird and a pair of blocks from Ellis who teamed up with
Caleigh Vagana and Shewell. The Lancers took back the momentum and would later win the set.
The Wolverines trailed 10-8 before a 4-0 run put them in front 12-10 after Cuff had a kill and added solo block, and Medeiros added a service ace. The Lancers came back later in the set with a 6-0 run led by outside Catherine Krieger who had four kills during the stretch to make it 22-18 CBU. Cuff again fueled a spark of offense for UVU with a pair of kills to make it 22-20, before California Baptist went on to win the set.
Utah Valley responded to an 8-5 deficit to tie the set at 9-9 before forcing a pair of CBU errors to go up 11-9. They would go up 14-10 after kills from Kennedy, Ellis and
Kendra Nock. The Lancers used a 4-0 run to tie the set back up 16-16 before pulling away down the stretch, including the match's final three points for the match win.

Lani Matavao matched her career-high in digs with 25 while adding a pair of service aces and four assists.
Utah Valley returns home next week for matches on Thursday, Oct. 26, against Abilene Christian at 7:30 p.m. MT and then will host Tarleton State on Oct. 28 at 1:00 p.m. MT.
