ST. GEORGE, Utah — Alejandro Silva scored a stunner of a free kick in the 33rd minute, but the Utah Tech Trailblazers scored two second half goals as the Utah Valley men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at Greater Zion Stadium in St. George.
The Wolverines held a 1-0 lead past the hour mark, but two goals in the final 20 minutes pushed Utah Tech over the top.
The Trailblazers came close to opening the scoring in the 13th minute, but Sami Cuevas' shot went wide left.
Parker Allen faced his first test in the 24th minute when Utah Tech cut in from the right flank. Austin Wallace connected well with the shot, but Allen was perfectly positioned for the save.
Silva scored his third goal of the season on a set piece from just outside the penalty area in the 33rd minute. Silva left the Trailblazer keeper frozen on his line with a strike that sailed into the top-left corner.
Allen made a key save in the 69th minute to stop the UTU counter, but the Trailblazers were able to equalize in the 73rd when Wallace headed his shot into the top-right corner. Utah Tech took the lead for good in the 86th minute with a goal by Cuevas.
Utah Valley had two good looks in the last two minutes, but Nik Kizerian and Noah Pogue's shots were blocked.
The Wolverines will return home for four of their final five games, starting in a week when Utah Valley hosts defending WAC regular season champion Air Force on Oct. 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. MDT, and the match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
