SALT LAKE CITY—
Caleb Stone-Carrawell scored 12 points and
Tanner Toolson added 11 in a 76-62 setback to Utah on Saturday afternoon at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
Â
Trailing by six points, 67-61, with 3:46 to play, Utah Valley got three straight defensive stops but would only manage one point offensively to cut it to five points, 67-62, with 2:43 to go. Utah then went on a 9-0 run over the final two minutes to secure the 76-62 win.Â
Â
"I thought our guys competed and battled," said Utah Valley head coach
Todd Phillips. "We were right there in the last three minutes of the game and ran out of gas and gave them some easy baskets late to stretch their lead. We hung in there and hung in there. We didn't shoot it great in the second half. If we would have hit a couple of those baskets and knocked down free throws, it's a different ball game. We needed to make some foul shots we missed and make a couple of the threes we had late."
Â
Utah Valley falls to 6-5 on the season with the loss while Utah improves to 8-2 overall.Â
Â
Stone-Carrawell scored his team-high 12 points on 4 of 14 shooting, including a 1 of 5 mark from long range. He knocked down 3 of 4 shots at the free throw line. Stone-Carrawell pulled down four rebounds with one block and a steal.
Â
Toolson connected on 4 of 9 shots from the floor, including a pair of threes and a free throw for his 11 points. He tallied three rebounds with one steal.
Â
Trevin Dorius was just one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds. He also had one block and a steal.
Â
Drake Allen scored nine points, while
K'mani Doughty added seven.
Osiris Grady came off the bench to score six points and dished out three assists in eight minutes of action.
Jaden McClanahan also had six points on the day.Â
