Utah Valley hosts in-state foe Weber State on Tuesday night at UCCU Center

UTAH VALLEY HOSTS WEBER STATE ON TUESDAY NIGHT AT UCCU CENTER
  • After opening WAC play with a 1-1 record last week, Utah Valley steps back into non-conference play as the team returns to the UCCU Center to host in-state foe Weber State on Tuesday night at the UCCU Center. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
     
  • Caleb Stone-Carrawell led Utah Valley with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting, but a cold night from the field for the Wolverines and foul trouble in the front court proved to be insurmountable as Utah Tech protected its home court for a 65-53 win on Saturday night at the Burns Arena.
     
  • UVU opened WAC play with a 1-1 record last week as the team heads back into non-league play on Tuesday. UVU's next WAC game isn't until Jan. 4 against California Baptist at the UCCU Center.
     
  • Utah Valley went 1-1 at the Jacksonville Classic in St. Augustine, Florida, Nov. 19-20. The Wolverines defeated Southern Miss, 67-64, before falling to Cornell in the championship game, 74-61. UVU also dropped a 62-45 decision at Charlotte to open the eight-day road trip to North Carolina and Florida.
     
  • With its win over Seattle U on Nov. 29, Utah Valley has won 10 straight games at home and 20 of its last 21 at the UCCU Center. UVU's last loss at home was an 85-80 setback to Seattle U on Jan. 14, 2023. The 10 straight home wins is the ninth longest home win streak in the nation.
     
  • Utah Valley has 11 new players this season, including seven transfers. The team did not return a player with a single start from last season. The only returning players that saw time last season are Jaden McClanahan and Ethan Potter.
     
  • Todd Phillips enters his first season as the head coach of the Utah Valley basketball team.  Phillips is no stranger to UVU as he spent the past four seasons as an associate head coach/assistant coach under previous head coach Mark Madsen. Phillips helped UVU to two WAC regular season titles (2020-21, 2022-23) and an impressive 70-51 record, including 48 wins over the last two seasons.

BROADCAST INFORMATION
Tuesday night's game against Weber State will be broadcast live on ESPN+, which is available on the ESPN app or on ESPNplus.com. Brandon Crow and Josh Kallunki will be on the call for the ESPN+ broadcast. The game will also be broadcast over the air waves in Utah County with Jim McCulloch and Brice Larson on the call. The radio broadcast will be aired live on ESPN 960 AM radio with a live stream available at ESPN960sports.com. Larson will host the pregame/halftime/postgame show  for the game on ESPN 960 AM. 

ABOUT WEBER STATE
Weber State enters Tuesday night's game with a 4-2 overall record. The Wildcats have won two of their last three games, including a 107-45 win over Navajo Tech on Nov. 27. WSU's two losses this season have been by just a combined three points. WSU had four players score in double figures in the win over Navajo Tech. The 62-point win is the ninth largest margin of victory in school history. Senior guard Steven Verplancken led Weber State with a season-high 19 points. Junior guard Blaise Threatt had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Leading scorer Dillon Jones did not play in last week's game against Navajo Tech. Jones, a junior forward, leads the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging a double-double at 22.0 points and 11.6 rebounds per game. Jones ranks fifth in the nation on the boards (11.6) and first in the country in defensive rebounds per game (11.4). His 22.0 points per game ranks him 11th nationally. As a team, Weber State leads the nation in free throw percentage (82.5%). The team also ranks fifth in the country in scoring defense, allowing only 58.0 points per game. 

SERIES HISTORY VS. WEBER STATE
Utah Valley (5-3) and Weber State (4-2) will meet up on the basketball hardwood for the 15th time on Tuesday night. Weber State leads the all-time series, 8-6. Weber State has won two straight games over the Wolverines, including a 70-62 win in the last meeting between the two teams on Jan. 2, 2021. The last time the two teams met in Orem (12/4/19), UVU dropped a 72-67 decision to the Wildcats. UVU's last win over WSU was a 75-63 victory on Dec. 15, 2018 in Ogden.

NINTH-LONGEST HOME WIN STREAK IN THE NATION
With its win over Seattle U on Nov. 29, Utah Valley has won 10 straight games at home dating back to the 2022-23 season. The Wolverines have also won 20 of their last 21 games at home. UVU's last loss at home was an 85-80 setback to Seattle U on Jan. 14, 2023. The home streak is the ninth-longest home win streak in the nation.

WOLVERINES OPEN WAC PLAY WITH 1-1 RECORD
Leading 71-68 with 28 seconds to play, Jaden McClanahan stole the ball and knocked down five free throws over the final 26 seconds to help lift Utah Valley to a 78-72 win over Seattle U in the WAC opener on Nov. 29 at the UCCU Center. Caleb Stone-Carrawell led UVU with a team-high 20 points in the win over the Redhawks.

Stone-Carrawell led Utah Valley with 15 points, but a cold night from the field for the Wolverines and foul trouble in the front court proved to be insurmountable as the Utah Tech Trailblazers protected their home court for a 65-53 win on Saturday night at the Burns Arena.
