Everlyn Kemboi was named the WAC TicketSmarter Women's Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
Kemboi captured an event win in the women's 3000-meter run on Jan. 28 at the Stacy Dragila Open. She clocked an adjusted time of 9:12.57 to post the top showing in the conference this season and rank 23rd in NCAA Division I as of Feb. 1. Kemboi also broke a Holt Arena record with her finish, which has stood since 1983, almost 40 years.
Tarleton's Justin Raines, and Stephen F. Austin's Branson Ellis and Nissi Kabongo joined Kemboi as the weekly honorees. Raines clocked the fastest 60 in the WAC so far this season and was named the Men's Track Athelete of the Week. Ellis won the pole vault with the top mark in the WAC and the fifth best in the country to earn the Men's Field Athlete of the Week, and Kabongo' WAC-best high jump earned her the Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
