SEATTLE – Utah Valley dropped its final road game of the WAC regular season at Seattle U, 66-51, on Saturday in the Redhawk Center.
Shay Fano led the way for the Wolverines (6-21, 3-13) with 18 points and six rebounds while
Kaylee Byon finished with 14 points. The Redhawks (5-21, 5-11) got a game-high 24 points from Irena Korolenko and Peyton Howard finished with 16 points and eight boards.
Seattle U had a 31-20 edge in rebounding and outscored UVU 14-4 in second-chance points. The Redhawks also hit 12-for-28 from three, with Korolenko making six of her 10 attempts.
The Redhawks closed the first quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 15-10 lead and then continued that run in the second, scoring the first 11 points to complete a 16-0 run that gave them a 26-10 lead midway through the second.
Utah Valley responded with a 10-0 run, with four points coming from Byon before consecutive 3-pointers from
Ally Criddle and
Saige Gibb. The Wolverines trailed 30-22 at the break.
UVU got within seven in the third quarter, but Seattle U pushed it back to 13 after three, 48-35, and kept the lead in double figures for the remainder of the contest.
The Wolverines will wrap up the regular season with a pair of home games next week. UVU hosts UT Rio Grande Valley on Tuesday at Utah Tech on Thursday on Senior Night for the team's lone senior,
Kayla Anderson.
