Utah Valley returns home to host Abilene Christian

OREM, Utah — Utah Valley returns home for the first of nine-straight games in the state of Utah, hosting WAC foe Abilene Christian for a three-game series starting Friday afternoon at Wolverine Softball Field.

Winter weather in the forecast for Friday has altered the series. The Wolverines and Wildcats will now play a single game on Friday at 4 p.m. MDT. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. MDT.

The Wolverines are looking to bounce back from a series sweep at the hands of the Sam Houston Bearkats last weekend in Huntsville, Texas. Jaeden Barajas extended her hitting streak to six games, which is tied for the longest this season by a Utah Valley hitter. Barajas is hitting .526 so far in conference play.

The Wildcats and Wolverines have met just once before on the softball diamond, in a thriller at the WAC Tournament a season ago. Brooke Saili went the distance in a pitcher's duel, allowing just three hits to shut down the ACU lineup. The Utah Valley offense was able to muster up just one run until the top of the seventh, when the Wolverines broke out for six runs, punctuated by a Peyton Prigge grand slam, to walk away 7-0 winners.

This weekend's series will be broadcast free of charge on WAC International. To watch, go to WACInternational.tv and create a free account. Live stats will also be available at UVUStats.com.

UP NEXT

Utah Valley will host a rescheduled game against Weber State on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. MDT. The Wolverines will then turn around and host preseason WAC favorite GCU for a three-game series.
