Wolverines head to California Baptist for road WAC series

Utah Valley returns to the road for its fifth WAC series of the season, traveling to Riverside, Calif. to take on the California Baptist Lancers in a three-game set. Friday's doubleheader is slated to begin at 5 p.m. MDT, with Saturday's series finale now scheduled for 2 p.m. MDT.

The Wolverines are coming off a midweek split after dropping a 9-0 decision to BYU on Tuesday before securing a 7-6 walk-off win over Idaho State on Wednesday.

In Wednesday's win, Megan Gibbs went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Britney Moreno and Libbie Hawker each went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Moreno also picked up an RBI and made a plethora of great defensive plays at second. Rylee Thorpe picked up a key two-out, two-RBI double in the first to get Utah Valley back in the game after giving up four in the top of the inning. Kalena Shepherd picked up the game-winning hit for the Wolverines.

In last week's WAC action, the Wolverines dropped two out of three to GCU. Katie Zuniga was masterful in the series-opening win, surrendering just one run on four hits in a complete game win. After giving up the lone Lopes run in the third, Zuniga retired 12-straight Lopes before giving up a leadoff single to start the 7th.

Libbie Hawker has reached base in all 12 WAC games to start the conference season. Hawker is tied for 2nd on the team in hits during WAC play with 12 win Angelique Mann. Jaeden Barajas leads all Wolverines with 13 hits, including five extra-base hits (2 HR, 3 2B). Megan Gibbs leads all Utah Valley hitters with 6 home runs and 24 RBIs overall.
