AUSTIN, Texas — Utah Valley University senior
Everlyn Kemboi will vie for a pair of national titles this week at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the University of Texas. Kemboi will become the first two-time All-American in UVU women's track & field history while also aiming to earn the first NCAA Division I title in Utah Valley's short NCAA DI era. She'll compete in the 10,000-meter final on Thursday night and the 5,000-meter final on Saturday. Both races can be watched live on ESPN2 and on ESPN+.
A returning All-American in the 10k, Kemboi will first compete in that event on Thursday at 10:08 p.m. CT. She won the semifinal race at the NCAA West Preliminaries in Sacramento two weeks ago and also holds the third-best time in the country this season. She'll face a deep field that includes fellow Kenyan and University of Alabama senior, Mercy Chelangat, who is the event's returning national champion.
Kemboi is also set to compete in the 5k final on Saturday at 9:55 p.m. CT, a race she also won at the west prelims. She's the national leader this season in that event and will again compete against Chelangat, as well as defending champion Katelyn Tuohy of North Carolina State, who also is the national champion this season in cross country, indoor 3k, and indoor 5k. Utah's Emily Venters, who holds the top 10k time in the country, will also compete in both events alongside Kemboi.
Kemboi will add two more All-American titles to her resume this week and become the first woman in UVU track & field history to earn four NCAA All-America honors. She is a returning All-American in the 10k and became the first student-athlete at UVU to receive the honor in cross country this past fall.
