MILAN, Italy—
Ethan Potter recorded a double-double with a game-high 14 points 11 rebounds to lead the Utah Valley University men's basketball team to a 92-35 win over Milano 3 in the team's first of three games on its international trip to Italy.
"I thought we were very resilient tonight," said Utah Valley head coach
Todd Phillips. "We started out a little slow and had a lot of nerves with it being our first game. We had been touring Italy all day long and spent four hours on a boat and were away from a normal routine. Our guys responded in the second half and I was happy with the effort."
Potter knocked down 3 of 7 shots from the field and was a perfect 8 of 8 from the free throw line. The sophomore forward also pulled down a game-best 11 rebounds in the win.
Tanner Toolson and
K'mani Doughty were also in double figures with 13 points apiece. Toolson connected on 6 of 11 shots from the floor, including a shot from beyond the arc. Toolson also had three rebounds with two steals and an assist. Doughty scored his 13 points on 6 of 13 shooting from the field, including a three-point field goal. Doughty also pulled down five rebounds with a pair of steals.
Trevin Dorius was just one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds. True Freshman
Osiris Grady posted seven points with four rebounds, while
Caleb Stone-Carrawell also notched seven points with five boards.
Jackson Holcombe,
Trevan Leonhardt, and Nate Tshimanga each had six points.
Drake Allen rounded out the scoring with five points to go along with six rebounds, six assists, and three steals.
As a team, Utah Valley shot 50 percent (37 of 74) from the field, including a 25 percent (5 of 20) mark from three-point range.
The Wolverines will continue play in Italy on Monday, Aug. 7 against the Lombarida Stars in Florence. Tip-off is set for 12:30 p.m. (MT).
