Utah Valley wraps up SoCal road trip with 1-1 draw at Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, Calif.—Utah Valley's Heather Stainbrook fired a shot into the goal in the 23rd minute to lead the Utah Valley women's soccer team to a 1-1 draw on the road against Long Beach State on Sunday afternoon at George Allen Field in Long Beach, California.

Utah Valley wraps up its SoCal road trip with a 1-0-1 record with the win at No. 19 USC on Thursday and the draw against Long Beach State today. The Wolverines are now 3-3-2 on the season while Long Beach State moves to 4-3-1 overall.

"The team turned up and grinded out a hard-fought result today against a very good Long Beach team," said Utah Valley head coach Chris Lemay. "CJ was once again a beast in the goal, and it was awesome to see Heather net her first one of the year. Beach was receiving votes for the top 25 and USC was 19 coming into the weekend. We are really happy with the road trip and are excited to get prepared for Cal next week."

Elle Young sent a 40-yard free kick from the left side of the field into the box where it was mishandled by the Long Beach State keeper. Stainbrook rebounded the ball and fired it into the net in the 23rd minute to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead.

Long Beach State's Cherrie Cox sent an equalizer into the net in the 28th minute to help the Beach draw even with UVU, 1-1.

Long Beach State outshot Utah Valley 16-11, including a 9-7 advantage on frame. The Beach had eight corner kicks to UVU's one. Faith Webber led UVU with three shots, including one on goal. Stainbrook had two shots, both on frame. Young also had two shots on the day, both of which were on goal.

CJ Graham played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded a season-high eight saves.

Utah Valley will continue play in The Golden State to wrap up non-conference play on Friday, Sept. 15 against California. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. MT. The game will be broadcast live on Pac-12 plus.
