OREM, Utah – Brigham Young University defeated Utah Valley 3-0 on Friday night inside Lockhart Arena. BYU (10-1) outhit UVU (3-8) .361 to .061 in the match. Senior middle blocker 
Vittoria Price had five kills and hit .444 in the match, while 
Avery Shewell added a team-high nine kills.
 
BYU built a 9-3 lead and didn't look back in the opening set. 
Tori Ellis got off to a quick start with three kills in the opening set for the Wolverines, and 
Abbie Medeiros added four of her 16 assists in the match as she moved past 1,700 assists for her career.
 
The Wolverines played well early in the second set as they built a 7-4 lead following kills from Shewell, 
Hailey Cuff, and 
Vittoria Price. BYU went on a 10-0 run to take the lead at 17-10. UVU looked to chip back into the match trailing 21-14 when they went on a 3-1 run after one of Shewell's five kills in the second set. Price added three, and 
Kalea Kennedy followed with three of her own. The Cougars closed out the set to go up 2-0.
 
BYU started on a 12-3 run and led 14-4 before the Wolverines went on a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to 14-8 after kills from Shewell before 
Madi Standifird set a new career-high with one of her two kills on the night while adding another career-high six digs. The Cougars quickly swung the momentum back and pulled away for the victory.
 
Lani Matavao had 15 digs for the Wolverines, and Kennedy had seven kills, one off a season-high.
 
Utah Valley opens Western Athletic Conference play on Thursday, Sept. 21, with a match in Stephenville, Texas, against Tarleton State, and then will meet Abilene Christian on Saturday, Sept. 23.
