Utah Valley continues WAC road play at Grand Canyon on Thursday night

UTAH VALLEY WRAPS UP THREE-GAME ROAD SWING AT GRAND CANYON ON THURSDAY NIGHT
  • Utah Valley wraps up a three-game road swing as the team travels to The Valley of the Sun to take on Grand Canyon on Thursday night at Global Credit Union Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. (MT)
     
  • Trevin Dorius scored 14 points and Jaden McClanahan added 12 in a 76-68 setback on the road to UT Rio Grande Valley on Jan. 13 at UTRGV Fieldhouse in Edinburg, Texas. Dorius scored his 14 points on a 6 of 8 clip from the floor and a 2 of 4 mark from the free throw line. He also pulled down eight rebounds with one block and a steal. McClanahan went a perfect 6 for 6 from the free throw line and knocked down a pair of threes for his 12 points. Drake Allen was also in double figures with 11 points
     
  • Trevin Dorius recorded a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double and Drake Allen scored a team-best 16 points to lead Utah Valley to an 83-69 road loss to UT Arlington on Jan. 11 at College Park Center. Utah Valley rallied from a second half 26-point deficit with 11 minutes to play to cut the UT Arlington lead to 10 points, 74-64, with 1:40 to play, but couldn't get any closer as the Mavericks secured the 83-69 win.
     
  • Utah Valley's three-point streak came to an end on Jan. 4 as the Wolverines went 0 for 8 from long range in the 65-58 win over California Baptist. Utah Valley had knocked down a three-point field goal in 266 straight games. UVU has made just six three-pointers over its last four games.
     
  • Utah Valley is only one of six teams in the nation that returned players with a total of zero starts from the 2022-23 season. UVU has 11 new players this season, including seven transfers. The only returning players that saw time last season are Jaden McClanahan and Ethan Potter and neither started a game last season.

BROADCAST INFORMATION
Thursday night's game at UT Rio Grande Valley will be broadcast live on ESPN+, which is available on the ESPN app and on ESPNplus.com. Barry Buetel and Scott Williams will be on the call for the ESPN+ broadcast with Kate Longworth on the sidelines. The game will also be broadcast over the air waves in Utah County with Jim McCulloch on the call. The radio broadcast will be aired live on ESPN 960 AM radio with a live stream available at ESPN960sports.com.  Brice Larson will host the pregame/halftime/postgame show for the game on ESPN 960 AM. 

ABOUT GRAND CANYON
Grand Canyon brings a 13-game winning streak into Thursday night's game against Utah Valley. The Lopes hold an impressive 16-1 overall record and a perfect 6-0 record in WAC play. The 13-game win streak is the third-best win streak in the nation behind only Utah State and Samford's 15-game win streaks. GCU went 2-0 at home last week with a 74-64 win over Abilene Christian and a 74-48 win over Tarleton State, improving its home record to a perfect 9-0 this season. Gabe McGlothan led the Lopes with 20 points, while Tyon Grant-Foster added 16  in the win over ACU on Saturday night. Grand Canyon ranks 14th nationally in blocks per game (5.6) and free throws made per game (18.0). The team also ranks 21st in field goal percentage (49.0) and 21st in free throw attempts per game (24.1). Grant-Foster leads the team in scoring at 20.6 points per game, which ranks 14th nationally. McGlothan leads the team on the boards, pulling down 8.0 rebounds per game. As a team, GCU is averaging 81.94 points per game while limiting opponents to a 66.94 points per game average. The 15.0 points per game scoring margin ranks 19th in the country. 

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE LOPES
Utah Valley and Grand Canyon will meet for the 23rd time on the basketball hardwood on Thursday night. GCU holds an all-time 13-9 advantage in the series and has won three of the past four meetings with the Wolverines. Utah Valley took the win in the lone meeting between the two teams last season, defeating the Lopes 76-74 in Phoenix on Jan. 21, 2023. GCU holds an all-time 7-4 advantage over UVU in games played in Phoenix.
