Utah Valley travels to play Seattle U on Friday night

UTAH VALLEY TRAVELS TO PLAY SEATTLE U ON FRIDAY NIGHT
  • Utah Valley heads back out on the road this week as the team travels to the Evergreen State to take on WAC foe Seattle U on Friday night at the Redhawk Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. (MT)
     
  • Tanner Toolson scored a career-high 26 points and Drake Allen added 16 to lead Utah Valley to an 84-71 win over in-state rival Utah Tech in the Old Hammer Rivalry on Saturday afternoon at the UCCU Center. Toolson scored his 26 points on an 8 of 14 clip from the field, including a 3 of 6 mark from long range. He also knocked down 7 of 11 shots at the free throw line.
     
  • Utah Valley has used seven different starting lineups this season. The Wolverines have used a starting lineup that includes two freshmen with Tanner Toolson and Osiris Grady five times this season.
     
  • As a team, Utah Valley leads the WAC in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.14. Drake Allen leads the WAC in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.93. UVU also ranks third in assists per game at 14.05. Trevin Dorius ranks sixth in the WAC in rebounding at 7.58 boards a game. Dorius also ranks fourth in offensive boards per game at 2.89.
     
  • Utah Valley is only one of six teams in the nation that returned players with a total of zero starts from the 2022-23 season. UVU has 11 new players this season, including seven transfers. The only returning players that saw time last season are Jaden McClanahan and Ethan Potter and neither started a game last season.

BROADCAST INFORMATION
Friday night's game at Seattle U will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Russell Brown and Corey Belser will be on the call for the ESPN+ broadcast. The game will also be broadcast over the air waves in Utah County with Jim McCulloch on the call. The radio broadcast will be aired live on ESPN 960 AM radio with a live stream available at ESPN960sports.com.  Brice Larson will host the pregame/halftime/postgame show for the game on ESPN 960 AM. 

ABOUT SEATTLE U
Seattle U enters Friday's game against the Wolverines with an 11-8 overall record and an 4-4 mark in WAC play. The Redhawks knocked off WAC leader Grand Canyon on Saturday night, 86-69, to improve to 10-2 at home this season. Redshirt senior guard Cameron Tyson returned from a two-game absence from an ankle injury to score a team-high 25 points to help lift Seattle U to the win over GCU. Tyson leads the Redhawks in scoring this season at 17.8 points a contest. Four other Redhawks average double figure scoring, including John Christofilis (14.1), senior guard Alex Schumacher (13.7), redshirt junior forward Brandton Chatfield (10.2), and junior forward Kobe Williamson (10.2). Chatfield leads the team on the boards, pulling down 6.1 rebounds a game. As a team, Seattle U ranks sixth nationally in free throw attempts per game (36.5) and seventh in free throws made per game (25.5). SU is averaging 75.2 points per game while limiting opponents to a 67.5 points per game average. 

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE REDHAWKS
Utah Valley and Seattle U will meet for the 28th time on the basketball hardwood. UVU holds a slight 14-13 advantage in the series. The two teams have split the two-game WAC series three of the last four seasons. The Wolverines took a 78-72 win earlier this season on Nov. 29 at the UCCU Center in Orem. UVU holds an all-time 5-8 record against SU in games played in the Emerald City. UVU did take a 67-58 over the Redhawks the last time the two teams met in Seattle on Feb. 18, 2023.

Leading 71-68 with 28 seconds to play, Jaden McClanahan stole the ball and knocked down five free throws over the final 26 seconds to help lift Utah Valley to a 78-72 win over Seattle U in the WAC opener on Nov. 29 at the UCCU Center.

UTAH VALLEY, ALLEN LEAD WAC IN ASSIST/TURNOVER RATIO
As a team, Utah Valley leads the WAC in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.14. The team also ranks third in assists per game at 14.05. Individually, Drake Allen leads the WAC in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.93. Trevin Dorius ranks sixth in the WAC in rebounding at 7.58 boards a game. Dorius also ranks fourth in offensive boards per game at 2.89. K'mani Doughty ranks fourth in the WAC at the free throw line among those who have attempted 15 or more rebounds with an impressive 88.9% mark, knocking down 40 of 45 shots at the charity stripe. Allen ranks sixth in the league in assists at 3.29 helpers a game. Dorius ranks seventh in blocks at 1.42 a game. 

SECOND-BEST STEALS PER GAME MARK IN PROGRAM HISTORY
Utah Valley currently holds the second-best steals per game average in program history at 7.8 steals a contest. The school record for steals per game average is 8.5 set during the 2003-04 season. The record for steals in a season is 239 set last season during the team's run to the semifinals of the NIT over a 37-game season. UVU has 148 steals through 19 games this season.

MCCLANAHAN IS ONE OF ONLY TWO WAC PLAYERS TO RECORD A 10-PLUS ASSIST GAME
Jaden McClanahan dished out a career-high 10 assists in Utah Valley's 81-73 win over Carroll College on in the team's season opener on Nov. 6. It is one of only two 10-plus performances in the WAC this season. Alex Schumacher recorded 11 assists in Seattle U's 92-55 win over Idaho on Nov. 22.
