PHOENIX — Utah Valley dropped its first road game of the 2024 season on Sunday night, falling 1-0 on the road at Grand Canyon.
Despite holding the majority of possession and out-shooting the Lopes 12-5 on the night, the Wolverines were unable to find a goal.
Utah Valley controlled the pace of play for the vast majority of the first half, holding GCU without a shot for the entire first 45, but the Wolverines were only able to manage one of their own.
The game opened up much more in the second half, with both sides getting plenty of scoring chances. The Utah Valley offense was able to test the keeper more, but the Lopes' Leon Schmidt saved all shots that came his way.
GCU's Serigne Babacar Diallo found the breakthrough goal in the 74th minute, heading home a corner kick.
Utah Valley will have a week off before returning to action next Sunday at Air Force. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. MT, and the game will be streamed on WAC International.
