OREM, Utah — Utah Valley and UNLV played to a defensive stalemate on Thursday night, drawing 0-0 at Clyde Field.
Ben Williams saved both shots he faced as the Wolverines and Rebels combined for four shots on goal and 14 overall. Utah Valley held a slim advantage in shots at 8-6.
After not having a draw in the first 11 meetings in the all-time series, the two sides have played to two draws in the last three, and the lone non-draw in those three meetings was won by UNLV in overtime. UVU drew 1-1 at UNLV in the previous regular season meeting last year.
Isaac Emojong had the first shot on goal in the second minute when he dribbled through traffic, but his shot from a tough angle was turned aside. Moments later, UNLV looked to have opened the scoring in the fifth minute, but Tyler Ware's flick on goal was ruled to have come from an offside position.
The Wolverines produced the first shot on goal of the second half on a takeaway in the midfield in the 58th minute. Gilles Aurelien stole the ball and cut through the defense, but his shot from just outside the penalty area went right at the keeper.
Emojong had another good look at goal in the 64th minute after Omar Yehya broke down the right flank, but his shot was blocked inside the 18.
UNLV had two shots in quick succession in the 72nd minute, but the Wolverines were able to stand strong. Williams saved the initial effort, then Tom Dobek-Pietrowski blocked the rebound.
Utah Valley had sustained pressure on the Rebels in the final five minutes, but were unable to make anything of it. The pressure culminated in a last-ditch effort by Aurelien with seconds to go that sailed high.
The Wolverines will play their final home game of the 2024 season on Monday in an Old Hammer Rivalry showdown against Utah Tech. The game will also be the team's Senior Night, with a pregame ceremony honoring the team's eight seniors. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. MDT and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
