Utah Valley set to take on Southern Utah on Saturday night in Cedar City

UTAH VALLEY SET TO TAKE ON IN-STATE FOE SOUTHERN UTAH ON SATURDAY NIGHT IN CEDAR CITY

  • Fresh of two straight wins, Utah Valley continues WAC road play as the team travels to Cedar City to take on in-state foe Southern Utah on Saturday night at America First Events Center. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
     
  • Drake Allen scored a game-high 19 points and Trevin Dorius pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds to lead Utah Valley to a 69-46 road win over California Baptist on Thursday night at the Fowler Events Center in Riverside, California. After building a 12-point lead at the half, Utah Valley extended its lead to as many as 29 points in the second half and led by 20 or more points for all but three minutes in the first half to secure the win.
     
  • The Wolverines have held a Division I opponent to under 50 points in back-to-back games for the first time in program history with its 74-45 win over Abilene Christian on Feb. 10 and its 69-46 win at California Baptist on Feb. 15 .It marks the third overall time in UVU history that the Wolverines have held an opponent to under 50 points in back-to-back games (regardless of opponent classification).
     
  • Ethan Potter has averaged 14.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks  per game over his last five games, including his career-high 20-point performance in the 72-45 win over Abilene Christian on Feb. 10..
     
  • Utah Valley used its eight different starting lineup this season on Feb. 10 against Abilene Christian. The Wolverines have used a starting lineup that includes two freshmen with Tanner Toolson and Osiris Grady five times this season.
     
  • Trevin Dorius recorded a career-high five blocks against WAC leader Grand Canyon on Feb. 3, which is the second most blocks pulled down in a single game this season in the WAC. Dorius ranks third in the WAC in blocks at 1.76 swats per game. Dorius also had four blocks in Thursday night's win at California Baptist. He is averaging 4.0 blocks per game over his last four games.
     
  • Drake Allen dished out a career-high 11 assists at Stephen F. Austin on Feb. 1. The 11 assists tie him for the fifth most ever recorded in a single game in UVU history. Allen and Jaden McClanahan (10 assists vs. Carroll College) are two of only three players in the WAC to dish out 10 or more assists in a single game this season. Allen ranks third in the WAC in assists per game this season at 3.83 helpers a game.

  • As a team, Utah Valley leads the WAC in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.19. Drake Allen leads WAC in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.91. UVU also ranks second in assists per game at 14.96. Trevin Dorius ranks tied for sixth in the WAC in rebounding at 7.40 boards a game. Dorius is also tied for fourth in offensive boards per game at 2.76.

BROADCAST INFORMATION
Saturday night's game at Southern Utah will be broadcast live on ESPN+.  Spencer McLaughlin and Parker Haynie will be on the call for the ESPN+ broadcast. The game will also be broadcast over the air waves in Utah County with Jim McCulloch on the call. The radio broadcast will be aired live on ESPN 960 AM radio with a live stream available at ESPN960sports.com. Brice Larson will host the pregame/halftime/postgame show for the game on ESPN 960 AM. 

ABOUT SOUTHERN UTAH
Southern Utah enters Saturday's game with a 9-16 overall record. The Thunderbirds sit in 10th place in the WAC standings with a 4-10 record. SUU holds a 6-5 record at home this season. The team has dropped three straight, including a 78-68 setback to Seattle U on Thursday night in Cedar City. Junior forward Jamari Sibley led SUU with 17 points in the loss to the Redhawks. Junior guard Dominique Ford had 16 points and redshirt senior guard Zion Young finished with 11. Ford leads the team in scoring this season at 16.4 points a game, followed by Young at 13.0 points a contest. Parsa Fallah and Braden Housley also average double figures at 12.8 and 10.9 points per game, respectively. Fallah ranks 40th in the country in field goal percentage at a 56.4% clip. As a team, Southern Utah ranks 25th nationally in free throws made per game (16.8) and 34th in free throw attempts per game (22.8). The T-Birds also ranks 97th in the country in free throw percentage at 73.4%. SUU averages 75.5 points per game while allowing opponents an average of 77.1 points a game. 

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE THUNDERBIRDS
Utah Valley and Southern Utah will meet for the 14th time on the basketball hardwood on Saturday night. SUU holds an all-time 7-6 advantage in the series. UVU has won two of the last three meetings between the two teams, including an 80-62 win in Orem on Jan. 6. UVU holds a 2-4 record against SUU in games played in Cedar City. SUU has won three straight over UVU in Cedar City. UVU's last win in Cedar was an 85-75 win over T-Birds in 2014.
