Utah Valley hosts UTRGV on Thursday night at UCCU Center

UTAH VALLEY OPENS HOMECOMING WEEK AGAINST UTRGV ON THURSDAY NIGHT AT UCCU CENTER
  • Utah Valley continues WAC play as the team begins a three-game homestand on Thursday night against UT Rio Grande Valley. Tip-off at the UCCU Center is set for 6 p.m.
     
  • Drake Allen scored 18 points with nine assists and two blocks to lead Utah Valley to a 78-75 road win over Southern Utah on Feb. 17 at America First Event Center in Cedar City, Utah. Allen scored his 18 points on 9 of 17 shooting from the field. He also dished out nine assists with two blocks and a pair of rebounds in 35 minutes of play. Ethan Potter recorded his fourth straight double digit scoring game with 15 points to go along with a team-high six rebounds.
     
  • The Wolverines held Division I opponents to under 50 points in back-to-back games for the first time in program history with its 74-45 win over Abilene Christian on Feb. 10 and its 69-46 win at California Baptist on Feb. 15 .It marks the third overall time in UVU history that the Wolverines have held an opponent to under 50 points in back-to-back games (regardless of opponent classification).
     
  • Ethan Potter has averaged 14.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks  per game over his last six games, including his career-high 20-point performance in the 72-45 win over Abilene Christian on Feb. 10. Prior to his break-out 15-point game at SFA on Feb. 1, Potter was averaging 2.2 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 0.3 blocks per game.
     
  • Utah Valley used its eight different starting lineup this season on Feb. 10 against Abilene Christian. The Wolverines have used a starting lineup that has included two freshmen with Tanner Toolson and Osiris Grady five times this season.
     
  • Trevin Dorius recorded a career-high five blocks against WAC leader Grand Canyon on Feb. 3, which is the second most blocks pulled down in a single game this season in the WAC. Dorius ranks second in the WAC in blocks at 1.77 swats per game. Dorius has recorded three or more blocks in four of his last five games and is averaging 3.6 blocks per game over his last six games.
     
  • Drake Allen dished out a career-high 11 assists at Stephen F. Austin on Feb. 1. The 11 assists tie him for the fifth most ever recorded in a single game in UVU history. Allen and Jaden McClanahan (10 assists vs. Carroll College) are two of only three players in the WAC to dish out 10 or more assists in a single game this season. Allen ranks second in the WAC in assists per game this season at 4.0 helpers a game.
     
  • As a team, Utah Valley leads the WAC in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.19. Drake Allen leads WAC in assist-to-turnover ratio at 202. UVU also ranks second in assists per game at 14.96. Trevin Dorius ranks sixth in the WAC in rebounding at 7.31 boards a game. Dorius is also ranks sixth in offensive boards per game at 2.73

BROADCAST INFORMATION
Thursday night's game against UTRGV will be broadcast live on ESPN+.  Brandon Crow and Josh Kallunki will be on the call for the ESPN+ broadcast. The game will also be broadcast over the air waves in Utah County with Jim McCulloch and Brice Larson on the call. The radio broadcast will be aired live on ESPN 960 AM radio with a live stream available at ESPN960sports.com. Larson will host the pregame/halftime/postgame show for the game on ESPN 960 AM. 

ABOUT UT RIO GRANDE VALLEY
UT Rio Grande Valley enters Thursday's game against the Wolverines with a 6-19 overall record and a 2-12 record in WAC play. The Vaqueros have dropped eight straight games. The team's last win was a 76-68 win over Utah Valley on Jan. 13 in Edinburg. UTRGV holds a 1-10 record on the road this season. The Vaqueros dropped a pair of games at home last week to Abilene Christian and UT Arlington. In the team's 89-70 loss to UTA on Saturday, junior guard Sherman Brashear led the team with 15 points. Junior guard Elijah Elliott and senior forward Daylen Williams were also in double figures with 14 points apiece. Elliott leads the team in scoring this season at 16.1 points a game. Junior guard Hasan Abdul-Hakim ranks second in scoring at 13.2 points a contest. Senior forward Ahren Freeman and freshman guard J.J. Howard also average double figure scoring at 11.1 and 10.0 points per game, respectively. Williams leads the team on the boards, pulling down 6.4 rebounds per game. As a team, UTRGV ranks fifth nationally in free throw attempts per game at 26.0 a contest and 10th in free throws made per game at 18.2 a game. The team also ranks 17th in the country in turnovers forced per game at 15.36 a game. The Vaqueros ranks 36th nationally in steals per game at 8.5. UTRGV averages 73.5 points a game while allowing opponents an 80.5 points per game average. 

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE VAQUEROS
Utah Valley and UTRGV will meet for the 36th time on the basketball hardwood on Thursday. The Wolverines hold an all-time 30-5 advantage in the series. UVU had won four straight over the Vaqueros before a loss at UTRGV on Jan. 13. UVU has won 21 of the last 23 meetings between the two teams. The Wolverines hold an all-time 17-1 record against UTRGV in games played in Orem. UTRGV's lone win in Orem was a 56-53 victory over UVU on March 10, 2010.
