NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Utah Valley dropped a Saturday WAC women's basketball contest at Stephen F. Austin, 84-35. Three games now remain in the regular season with the final road contest coming next Saturday, March 2 at UT Arlington.
The Wolverines (9-17, 4-13) were led by eight points from
Kylee Mabry, who returned after missing Thursday's game due to injury. The Ladyjacks (18-9, 12-4) got a game-high 24 points from Avery VanSickle and 21 points and 10 rebounds from Kurstyn Harden. SFA shot 47.5% from the field for the game, including 11-for-26 (42.3%) from beyond the arc.
The Ladyjacks never trailed and raced out to an 18-6 lead after one quarter of play. SFA closed the first on a 10-0 run and then scored the first five points of the second to take a 23-6 lead just over one minute into the second. UVU trailed 40-18 at the break.
The Wolverines are now tied with Seattle for 10th place, one game behind Tarleton State and two back of Southern Utah and UT Rio Grande Valley in the loss column. UVU has three games remaining as the Wolverines try climb into the top eight and a spot in the WAC Tournament. Stephen F. Austin is firmly in third place in the conference standings.
After next Saturday's game at UT Arlington, Utah Valley will close out the regular season at home against Tarleton State (March 7) and Abilene Christian (March 9).
