OREM—The Utah Valley University men's basketball team has earned the No. 5 seed and will take on No. 8 California Baptist in the first round of the 2024 Hercules Tires Western Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament. The Wolverines will take on CBU on Wednesday at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas at 6 p.m. (PT). The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and over the airwaves at ESPN 960 AM radio.
 
Utah Valley wrapped up regular season play on Saturday with a 74-67 road win over Abilene Christian, snapping the Wildcats' seven-game win streak. The Wolverines completed a regular season-ending road sweep to wrap up regular season play last week. UVU defeated Tarleton State, 63-60, to end the Texans' 10-game win streak. The Wolverines then downed Abilene Christian, 74-67, to end the Wildcat's seven-game win streak. Utah Valley heads into tournament play having won seven of its last eight games.
 
Utah Valley makes its 10th appearance at the WAC Tournament this week and its first under the direction of head coach Todd Phillips. UVU holds an all-time 6-9 record at the tournament. UVU has advanced to the semifinals in five of the previous six tournaments. 
 
Utah Valley holds a 16-15 overall record and finished in a tie with Seattle U for fourth in the WAC standings with a 11-9 record. The 16 wins are the most wins by a first-year head coach in UVU's full status Division I era. The fourth place showing in the WAC this season is also the best finish by a first-year head coach in UVU history. 
 
Utah Valley has earned the No. 5 seed and will take on No. 8 California Baptist. The Wolverines swept this year's two-game WAC series against the Lancers, taking a 65-58 win at home on Jan. 4, and a 69-46 win over CBU in Riverside on Feb. 15. UVU has won five straight over the Lancers and have won seven of the last eight meetings. Wednesday's game will mark the first time the two teams have met in the WAC Tournament. 
 
A win on Wednesday in the first round would advance the Wolverines to Thursday's quarterfinal game against No. 3 Seattle. 
 
Utah Valley and California Baptist will tip-off at 6 p.m. (PT)/7 p.m. (MT) on Wednesday at Orleans Arena. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and over the airwaves on ESPN 960 AM radio.
