UVU to travel to BYU, host Weber State in midweek games

Utah Valley returns to action with a pair of midweek games before opening WAC play at the weekend. The Wolverines will face a pair of in-state rivals in BYU and Weber State before hosting WAC foe Tarleton State for a three-game set this weekend.

UVU travels to Provo on Monday to face the Cougars before returning home to host Weber State on Wednesday. Both games are slated for 4 p.m. MDT starts.

Monday's game at BYU will be streamed live on the BYU Softball Facebook page. Wednesday's game against Weber State will air on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT

Utah Valley is coming off of a 1-2 weekend at home in the UVU Tournament. The Wolverines were originally scheduled to travel to Boise for the Blue Collar Classic, but weather and field conditions caused the tournament to be moved to Orem.

UVU topped Weber State 11-3 in run-rule fashion to open the weekend before dropping the last two to Boise State. Megan Gibbs had a career game at the plate against Weber State, going 2-for-2 with a grand slam and 6 RBIs. The 6 RBIs were a career-best and the most in a game for any Wolverine hitter since Kyla Hardy had 6 in a win over BYU on April 27, 2021.

In the win over Weber State, the Wolverines plated 9 of their 11 runs in the 3rd inning. It is the most runs scored in a single inning for UVU since 2018 when the Wolverines put up a program-record 13 on Southern Utah.

Due to the change in schedule, UVU is now in the midst of a 26-day stretch without having to travel for an away game. Utah Valley's next road games out of Utah County will be at Grand Canyon on March 22-23.

With the addition of three more home games, UVU is now scheduled to have 22 home games this season, the most in program history. The previous high was in 2008 when the Wolverines had 20. Under Cody Thomson, Utah Valley has played well at home, posting a 22-13 (.629) record in two-plus seasons.

Peyton Hall enters the week riding a 6-game hitting streak, tied for the longest by any UVU player so far this season. In that time, Hall has gone 6-for-13 with a home run and 3 RBIs.

SERIES HISTORY vs BYU

UVU and BYU have played at least once every season since the Wolverines moved to Division I prior to the 2004 season (excluding 2020). BYU holds a 47-5 advantage in the series, including a 24-1 record at home.

BYU swept the two-game season series in 2023, winning 9-0 in Provo before stunning the Wolverines 6-5 in come-from-behind fashion in Orem. The Cougars will make the return trip to Orem on April 9.

SERIES HISTORY vs WEBER STATE

With the win over the Wildcats on Friday, UVU now holds a 20-18 advantage in the all-time series. The Wolverines have played — or been scheduled to play — Weber State every season since 2010. The two teams did not play in 2019 and 2023 due to weather cancellations. UVU will travel to Ogden on April 23.

HALL, SAPP RETURN TO SITE OF CHAMPIONSHIP TRIUMPH

Freshmen INF Peyton Hall and RHP/OF Avery Sapp return to Gail Miller Field for the first time since winning their third-consecutive state championship with Spanish Fork HS last May. The Dons swept past Bountiful HS with an 8-4 win.

UP NEXT

Utah Valley opens WAC play on Friday with a doubleheader against the Tarleton State Texans. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. MDT, with the second game coming 30 minutes after. All three games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
