Drake Allen scored a team-high 18 points and
Trevin Dorius recorded a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double to lead Utah Valley in a 78-65 setback to UT Arlington on Saturday afternoon at the UCCU Center.
Utah Valley falls to 14-15 overall and 9-9 in WAC play. The loss snaps a five-game winning streak for the Wolverines. UTA improves to 17-13 overall and 12-7 in league play.
"We made a nice run in the second half and then the technical hurt us because they (UTA) got four points after that," said Utah Valley head coach
Todd Phillips. "UTA is pretty close to the most talented team in our league. They are the best three-point shooting team in our league. I thought we did a pretty good job guarding them, but they finished with 10 threes. Every time we made a run they would make a big shot."
Allen scored his 18 points on a 7 of 13 clip from the field, including a season-high three shots from long range. He also pulled down six rebounds with four assists.
Dorius recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds. He also matched a career high with five blocks.
Tanner Toolson was also in double figures with 10 points, while
Jaden McClanahan helped with nine.
Caleb Stone-Carrawell had seven points off the bench.
Utah Valley shot 41.7% (25-60) from the field with a 31.6% (6-19) mark from long range. UT Arlington connected on a 41.8% (23-55) clip from the fioor with a 45.5% (10-22) mark from 3-point range.
Utah Valley outscored UT Arlington 32-18 in the paint. UTA outrebounded UVU 32-29 on the day.

Cache Fields) in a ceremony prior to the game.
Utah Valley will now wrap up regular season play on the road as the Wolverines travel to the Lone Star State to take on Tarleton State on Thursday and Abilene Christian on Saturday. UVU will then head to Las Vegas for the WAC Tournament, March 13-16, at Orleans Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
The two teams played through four lead changes and three ties over the first 8:22 with Utah Valley taking an 18-16 lead with 11:38 on the clock. UT Arlington then used an 11-2 run over the next 5:25 to take a 27-20 lead with 6:24 to play in the half.
Drake Allen then knocked down a three to spark a 7-2 UVU run to cut the UTA lead to just two points, 29-27, with 4:38 to go. The Mavericks scored six unanswered to extend their lead to eight points, 35-27, with 2:17 remaining in the half. UTA then scored three of the final five points of the half to take a 38-29 lead into the break.
Second Half
Allen opened the half for UVU with a shot from long range to spark a 14-3 run over the next 5:46 to give Utah Valley a 43-41 lead with 14:27 to play. The Mavs responded with seven straight points to take a 48-43 lead with 13:10 on the clock. The Wolverines countered with a 7-2 run over the next 3:02 to tie the game, 50-50, with 10 minutes to play. UTA then used an 8-2 run over the next two minutes to take a 58-52 lead with 7:50 to go. The Mavs then outscored UVU 20-13 over the final seven minutes to secure the 78-65 win.
