OREM—Utah Valley head coach
Todd Phillips has announced that two-time national champion Andre Johnson Jr. has transferred from the University of Connecticut to Utah Valley and will play for the Wolverines this next season.
"We are thrilled to welcome Andre to the Wolverine family," said Phillips. "He is an athletic combo guard who can really shoot the ball. He brings leadership and a winning DNA to UVU. He has won at the highest level, and we expect him to bring that experience to the Valley."
Johnson Jr., a 182-pound, 6-foot-4 guard, played in 13 games for UConn last season, including three NCAA Tournament games, helping the team to a second straight national championship. During his two seasons with the Huskies, Johnson Jr. saw time in 22 games, winning the two national titles, a Big East regular season and tournament championship, a Phil Knight Invitational title, and a Jimmy V Classic championship.
The Bristol, Connecticut native prepped at South Kent High School, where he led the Cardinals to the national prep school semifinals in 2022. Johnson Jr. was a 1,000-point scorer at South Kent, earning conference player of the year and all-conference honors. He was also named an Adidas Select Series standout performer, Peach Jam Invitational All-Tournament honoree, Rumble in the Bronx top performer, Always Live all-tournament team member, and CP3 Rising Stars invitee.
Johnson Jr. will join the Wolverines for the 2024-25 season and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
