Unbeaten Utah Valley hosts Cal Poly, Lindenwood at Clyde Field

Utah Valley kicks off a six-game homestand with a pair of games against Cal Poly on Friday and Lindenwood on Monday. The Wolverines bring an unbeaten 4-0-1 record into the weekend, with the team's .900 win percentage tied for eighth-best in the nation.

Friday's match against the Mustangs will kick off at 7 p.m. MDT, and Monday's game against the Lions is slated for a 6 p.m. MDT kickoff. Both games will be streamed live on ESPN+, and tickets are available to purchase at GoUVU.com/MSOCtix.

Leading the charge for UVU is redshirt senior forward and captain Omar Yehya, who has a goal contribution in each of the team's first five games. Yehya scored a brace at FGCU on Sunday and also assisted on Isaac Emojong's goal in the 1-0 win at FAU on Thursday. As of Sept. 10, Yehya ranks second in the WAC and 12th in the nation in goals scored with four and 10th in the nation in total points at 10.

Yehya's five-game goal contribution streak is the second-longest streak in program history behind Blake Frischknecht's seven-game streak in 2019, which is also the record for most consecutive games with a goal. With his two goals on Sunday, Yehya passed former Wolverine Matt Gay, who previously held the second-longest goal contribution streak at four games.

Utah Valley swept this week's WAC Player of the Week awards, with Yehya, Tom Dobek-Pietrowski, and Ben Williams earning recognition from the league. Dobek-Pietrowski played all 180 minutes in Florida and was instrumental in securing the team's first back-to-back road shutouts since 2017.

Williams recorded his first two clean sheets of his Division I career, including an impressive seven-save effort at FAU to secure the one-goal victory. Williams ranks first in the WAC in goals-against average (0.80) and shutouts (2), and is also 14th in the nation in the latter category.

SERIES HISTORY VS CAL POLY AND LINDENWOOD

Utah Valley is 1-0-1 all-time against the Mustangs, including a draw in San Luis Obispo last year. Omar Yehya scored the game-tying goal in the 80th minute to secure the draw.

Monday will be the first game against Lindenwood, and will also be the first against a team currently in the Ohio Valley Conference, which just began sponsoring men's soccer in 2023. The OVC is the new home for a pair of former WAC rivals in Incarnate Word and Houston Christian.

EMOJONG OFF TO A RED-HOT START

Through five games, freshman midfielder Isaac Emojong has three goals and one assist, good for the second-most points on the team. As of Sept. 8, Emojong is one of just six freshmen nationally with three or more goals this season.

AND THEN THERE WAS ONE

Through the first three weeks of the season, Utah Valley is the last unbeaten team in the WAC at 4-0-1. The Wolverines outlasted Seattle U, who lost 2-1 on the road at Washington on Sept. 9.

UP NEXT

Utah Valley's will face arguably its toughest opponent of the season thus far when the Wolverines host the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos on Sept. 19 for the penultimate non-conference game of the season. The Gauchos are currently receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll, and have gotten the upper hand on the Wolverines each of the last two seasons in Santa Barbara. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. MDT, and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+. Tickets are available at GoUVU.com/MSOCtix.
