OREM, Utah — Omar Yehya scored his fifth goal of the season as the Utah Valley Wolverines (4-0-2) battled the Cal Poly Mustangs (2-3-2) to a 1-1 draw on Friday night at Clyde Field.
The draw means Utah Valley is unbeaten through six games for the first time in program history. The 2015 Wolverine squad started off 5-0, but fell in their sixth game against Mercer.
Yehya's goal also extends his goal contribution streak to six games, the second-longest in program history. Yehya has had a goal or an assist in each of the Wolverines' games so far this season.
The Wolverines dominated possession through the first 20 minutes of the game, but didn't have much to show for it. Ben Ortiz took a set piece from just outside the penalty area in the 8th minute, but his shot was right at the keeper. Yehya and Keith Willey had chances in quick succession in the 21st minute, but Yehya's shot was blocked and Willey's shot went wide left.
The final 25 minutes saw a shift towards the Mustangs, with Cal Poly controlling the majority of the possession and having the remainder of the shots in the half.
Yehya earned the Wolverines a PK in the 62nd minute after his plant leg was taken out while attempting a shot. Yehya's spot kick found the fingertips of the keeper, but had too much power behind it to be saved.
The Wolverines weren't ahead for long, as Cal Poly's Quinn Mahoney equalized in the 64th minute. The goal was the first open-play goal conceded since the second match of the season at UC Davis, amounting to 423 minutes of game time.
Both sides had plenty of chances to break the tie in the closing stages, but neither were able to convert. Isaac Emojong had the last chance in the 89th minute, but his curler was saved.
Utah Valley has a quick turnaround, hosting the Lindenwood Lions on Monday at 6 p.m. MDT. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ and tickets are available at
