Utah Valley to host Oregon State to close out non-conference play

Utah Valley (5-1-2) closes out non-conference play with a showdown against the Oregon State Beavers (3-2-2) on Wednesday. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. MT, and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.

The Wolverines are coming off their first loss of the season at the hands of No. 22 UC Santa Barbara on Thursday. The Gauchos capitalized on early UVU miscues to take an  2-0 lead inside 11 minutes before securing a 4-1 win. Noah Pogue secured his first collegiate goal late in the match off of a set piece cross sent in by Nik Kizerian.

Wednesday's game marks the first time a Men's College Cup semifinalist from the previous season has come to Orem. Utah Valley and Oregon State have played each of the last two seasons in Corvallis, with the two sides drawing in the first-ever meeting in 2022 and OSU coming away with the win in 2023. The 2022 game was the highest-ranked result in UVU men's soccer history, with the Wolverines drawing the then-No. 5 Beavers 0-0.

Omar Yehya has been on a tear so far this season, netting a team-best seven goals and adding two assists. As of Sept. 23, Yehya ranks tied for fifth in the nation in goals scored and sixth in total points (16). Yehya tied a program record with a goal contribution in seven straight games, matching the record set by Blake Frischknecht in 2019. Yehya's 7 goals also already ranks t-6th most in a single season in program history.

Freshman Isaac Emojong has burst onto the scene with four goals in his first eight collegiate games. As of Sept. 23, Emojong is one of just six freshmen in the nation with 4 or more goals at this point in the season.

A pair of former Wolverines will be making their first trips back to Clyde Field with the Beavers. Four-time All-WAC honoree Alejandro Silva will make his return back to Orem after grad transferring last spring.  Former WAC All-Freshman selection and two-year starter Mateo Palomino will also be returning with the Beavers.

UP NEXT

After Wednesday's game against Oregon State, Utah Valley opens WAC play against the Seattle U Redhawks on Oct. 3. It will be Seattle's final trip to Orem as a member of the WAC, as the school will be moving to the WCC beginning in 2025. UVU will then have a quick turnaround, hosting San Jose State on Oct. 5. Both games will be streamed live on ESPN+ and tickets are available at GoUVU.com/MSOCtix.
