Utah Valley director of athletics Dr. Jared Sumsion has announced the hiring of Corey Chaney as the department's business and travel manager. Chaney, originally from Bartlesville, Oklahoma, brings over 9 years of administrative and operational management in military, athletic, and higher-education efforts.
"I'm excited to get to Utah and collaborate with a set of exceptional leaders and athletes within Utah Valley athletics!" said Chaney. "It was evident from the start of my interviewing process that there is a standard of excellence and growth within the walls of UVU athletics, and I couldn't be more eager to help contribute to what is ahead in making the Wolverines' name one that is said with pride. Thank you to Dr. Sumsion, Nikki Scott, Adam Sanft, and the coaching staffs at UVU for trusting me with this opportunity and speaking wisdom into me. My wife Jessica and I are hikers and skiers, and have missed the mountains! We can't wait to touch down in Orem. Go Wolverines!"
Chaney spent 5 years in the United States Army as a Combat Operations Team Leader/Sergeant and Administrative Operations Non-Commissioned Officer for the 4th Infantry Division in Fort Carson, Colorado, as well as a year in the Oklahoma National Guard as a Section Chief for a Human Resources brigade. He accumulated over 19 months of overseas combat experience earning multiple Army Commendations including awards with combat devices and being named in the top 10 percent of his Leadership Academy.
Once out of the military, Chaney was named an Assistant Football Coach at Wesleyan Christian School coaching receivers and defensive backs before transitioning to Oklahoma State University to serve on the Recruiting and Operations staff for Head Coach Mike Gundy and the Cowboy Football program. Chaney participated in the seasonal efforts that would lead Oklahoma State to defeat Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl in 2021.
Following that, Chaney was named the Business Operations Assistant for the University of Colorado-Boulder Police Department where he would both serve as the Executive Assistant to the Chief of Police and help maintain financial and administrative needs for the department while also assisting in large-scale campus events including football-related events for the first season of the Coach Prime era at CU.
Chaney then facilitated the athletic recruiting and admissions pipeline for international students at Oklahoma Wesleyan University where he served as a Designated School Official. He was responsible for all international students, as well as recruiting the eastern half of the United States, a significant portion of Oklahoma, and serving as the admissions administrator for Men's and Women's Soccer, Basketball, Track & Field, and Cross Country.
