BROOKINGS, S.D. – Utah Valley wrestling lost to No. 11 South Dakota State on Friday night, 21-16. UVU (5-7, 1-4) had bonus point wins via Kase Mauger at 133, and No. 4 Terrell Barraclough at 165, but SDSU (11-3, 3-1) had ranked wins from No. 6 Bennett Berge, No. 9 Cade DeVos, and No. 24 Luke Rasmussen, which swung the dual to the Jackrabbits.

"We battled tough tonight against a top 12 team in the country, coming down to the last match to decide the dual. Haiden Drury got another ranked win, and we had more consistency in competing in all ten weights than last week. One close match swings our way, and we win the dual. We have a quick turnaround tomorrow with a scrappy NDSU team. I hope our guys bring the same energy," said UVU head coach Adam Hall.

Bridger Ricks took an early lead over No. 15 Tanner Jordan, who is a returning NCAA qualifier, with a takedown in the first period, but a pair of escapes by Jordan made it 3-2 before the riding time point took the bout to overtime. Following a scoreless period of sudden victory, the match came down to riding time, which went against Ricks.

Utah Valley trailed 3-0 after one match; Mauger put Utah Valley in front with his 31st career pin over Cale Seaton. Seaton, a freshman from Iowa City, was stepping in for No. 25 Derrick Cardinal, who will look to factor into the podium at next month's Big 12 Championships. Mauger scored two first-period takedowns and a near fall in the first period before adding a reversal in the final frame and securing the fall.

No. 19 Haiden Drury went up in the opening period with the only takedown of the bout to take a 3-0 advantage. No. 21 Julian Tagg cut the lead to 3-1 with an escape in the second period. Drury extended his lead with an escape from his bottom position to start the third period. He later went up to 4-1 when Tagg was called for stalling for the second time. The UVU junior earned his third win over a ranked foe this season. He improved to 16-5 overall and 9-3 in duals. This season, Drury has set a new career-high 34 dual points and has 91 for his career.

The Wolverines held a 9-3 lead in the team score before the 149 and 157 bouts. The Jackrabbits Colin Dupill earned a 7-3 decision before Iowa transfer No. 18 Cobe Siebrecht tied the dual up at 9 with a decision over Ryker Fullmer.

Utah Valley has trusted on dual points from 165, and Barraclough delivered again tonight with a bonus point victory, leading 3-0 after the first period over Viewmont High School's Marcus Espinoza-Owens. The redshirt freshman for SDSU held his own before the now 19-1 Barraclough pulled away for his tenth dual victory of the season.

South Dakota State was aided by victories from returning All-Americans, starting with four-time NCAA qualifier DeVos, who recorded a major decision to tie the dual back up at 13. The Jackrabbits took the lead with Berge on the mat, who came away with a 14-7 win at 184.

Trailing for the first time in the dual since 3-0 at 125, Kael Bennie wanted to tie or give UVU the lead with a bonus point victory. He went up 3-1 in the first period over Thomas Dineen before a reversal in the second put the bout out of reach and again tied the dual up for the third time.

For the second time in three duals, the victory would come down to the heavyweight match, with Rasmussen winning and securing the dual for the Jackrabbits.

Utah Valley will head north for a showdown with North Dakota State on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 6:00 p.m. MT. The dual will air on gobison.com. The Wolverines will return to the Beehive State for duals next week with No. _ West Virginia on Thursday, Feb. 6, at Layton High School before hosting Air Force on Friday, Feb. 7.
