CEDAR CITY—Utah Valley earned a 3-0 road shutout over Southern Utah on Sunday afternoon at Thunderbird Soccer Field.
The Wolverines improve to 8-4-2 overall and remain unbeaten in WAC play at 4-0-1. Southern Utah falls to 2-9-2 overall and 1-4-0 in league play.
"We're happy to get a shutout and a result on the road," head coach Chris Lemay said. "It was a beautiful day and the field was in great condition."
UVU struck early when Bailey Peterson burst down the left flank and served a cross to Ruby Hladek, who gathered and finished with her right foot in the third minute for a 1-0 lead. The advantage doubled in the 68th minute after Marie Quentel's one-touch found Quinn Rustand, who slipped a ball to Josie Shepherd on the left side of the six; Shepherd buried the left-footed finish to make it 2-0. In the 72nd, Sadie Beardall beat the keeper to a loose ball in the box and laid it back to Quentel, who ripped in a goal from the top of the area for the final margin.
Utah Valley outshot SUU 14-3 with a 10-2 edge on frame and held an 8-1 advantage in corners. Faith Webber and Hladek paced UVU with three shots apiece. Goalkeeper Leah Wolf recorded her second clean sheet of the season, playing nearly 84 minutes with two saves.
