SALEM, Ore.—Utah Valley sophomore Paxton Maxwell fired a final-round 5-under-par 67 on Wednesday to finish tied for second at the Oregon State Invitational with a 3-under-par 213 (72-74-67). The runner-up showing is the best finish of his collegiate career.

It's Maxwell's second top-five of the season and his third top-10 in four fall starts. He recorded two top-10s as a freshman last year, including a tie for sixth at the WAC Championship and a solo fifth at the Utah Collegiate Shootout.

"Paxton was outstanding today. He stayed patient, took what the course gave him, and then capitalized coming home with the eagle on 14. That's the kind of composed, mature golf we've been seeing from him all fall. As a group we battled, and this puts us in a good place heading into Nassau," head coach Chris Curran said.

Maxwell's closing 67 featured an eagle on the 536-yard, par-5 14th along with four birdies and 12 pars. He finished one shot behind medalist Cole Rueck of Boise State (-4) and tied with Arizona State's Boston Bracken (-3).

As a team, Utah Valley posted a final-round 7-over-par 295 to finish tied for seventh in the 14-team field at 23-over-par 887 (292-300-295). Boise State won the team title at 1-over-par 865 (291-289-285).

Colby Hutchens closed with a 78 to tie for 18th at 3-over-par 219 (71-70-78). Andrew Hawk carded a 73 to tie for 40th at 8-over-par 224 (72-79-73). JJ Tomsick shot 77 and tied for 65th at 15-over-par 231 (77-77-77), while Isaiah Ellis finished 79th at 28-over-par 244 (80-85-79).

Utah Valley wraps up its fall slate at the Nassau Intercollegiate, Oct. 20-21, at Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove, New York.
