Wolverines, Rebels play to 3-3 draw in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS — Abdou Samb scored his first goal of the season and Nil Grau and Isaac Emojong each added their fifth goals of the year as Utah Valley (8-2-2, 2-2-1 WAC) and UNLV (4-4-6, 1-0-4 WAC) battled to a 3-3 draw on Thursday night in Las Vegas.

The Wolverines led 3-0 after a 66th minute goal from Isaac Emojong, but two goals in the next three minutes got the Rebels back in the game. UNLV equalized in the 85th minute to secure its fourth draw of the conference season and remain unbeaten in the league.

After a slow start with few shots for either side, Utah Valley struck first in the 23rd minute on a header from Samb. Jose Luis Martin Montealegre found Trevor Walk on the right wing with a switch of play, then Walk lofted a cross to the far post, where Samb nodded it home from close range. With the goal by Samb, the Wolverines have now tied the program record with 13 different goal-scorers this season.

Grau doubled the advantage in the 39th minute off a beautiful one-two play with Emojong. Emojong stole the ball away on the edge of the attacking third, fed Grau, then sent a shot off the right post following a pass from the Spaniard, but Grau was able to tap home the ricochet.

Emojong found pay dirt in the 66th minute to make it 3-0, unleashing a long-range left-footed strike from about 30 yards out into the top-right corner of the net.

The Rebels cut the lead down to one with two goals in quick succession in the 67th and 68th minutes.

The Wolverines settled down and resecured their offensive rhythm, but couldn't find the back of the net. Lewis Knecht thought he earned a penalty in the 78th minute when he was chopped down in the box, but a VAR review showed the Rebel defender got to the ball first and sent it behind for a corner.

UNLV equalized in the 85th minute on Bryce Allred's second goal of the night, scoring the last two Rebel goals.

Utah Valley had some last-ditch efforts in the final minute, but got nothing on frame. In the final seconds, UNLV got one last shot on goal, but it was turned aside.

Utah Valley returns home for the final home game of the 2025 season on Monday, hosting the defending WAC regular season champion San Diego State Aztecs. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. MDT, and the game will be the second half of a doubleheader with women's soccer, who play at 5. Tickets will be honored for both games, and can be purchased at GoUVU.com/MSOCtix.
