Wrestle-Offs Set for Friday night at 7 p.m. in Lockhart Arena

OREM, Utah — Fans can get their first glimpse of the 2025-26 Utah Valley University wrestling team in action at 7 p.m. Friday in the annual Wrestle-Offs. Admission is free, with the event being held in Lockhart Arena, which will also host four of the six home duals on this season's schedule. The dual will be streamed on the GoUVU YouTube page.

Friday's bouts were set following matches held in the wrestling room Wednesday night. Included among those results were a pair of wins from 133-pound freshman Geronimo Rivera, who will face senior Talen Eck on Friday night. Rivera won two close matches Wednesday — 1-0 over Jake Castagneto and 4-2 over Eck. Smokey McClure also won twice, defeating freshman Jason Worthley in sudden victory and earning a fall over Kayd Craig.

Freshman Zyon Trujillo also won both of his matches, including a 5-4 decision over fellow freshman Keegan Goeas. The two will face off again Friday night in a rematch. Mark Takara, who wrestled at 174 pounds last season, earned a 9-3 decision over Ian Fritz and will face Fritz in a rematch on Friday night. Fritz secured 10-4 win over Tanner Frothinger in his second match. Other winners earning spots in Friday's Wrestle-Offs were Christian Smoot (7-4 over Chandler Thompson) and Levi Kovacs (2-0 over Devin Alarcon).

Second-year head coach Adam Hall returns eight of his 10 starters from last season, including two wrestlers in the preseason rankings. Penn State transfer, No. 20/23 David Evans (149 pounds), and No. 25 Haiden Drury (141 pounds) are both slated to compete Friday. Evans is ranked No. 20 by InterMat, with he and Drury ranked No. 23 and No. 25, respectively, by FloWrestling.

Season tickets are now on sale. The Wolverines will host seven home contests, including the return of the UVU Open. Utah Valley will also welcome national powers No. 12 Stanford (Nov. 1) and No. 2 Nebraska (Feb. 21) in the UCCU Center. For more information or to purchase season tickets, click here.
