OREM—Utah Valley returns to the floor Saturday afternoon for a Salt Lake Slam showdown against UC Santa Barbara, squaring off with the Gauchos at Delta Center in Salt Lake City. Tipoff is set for noon MT, with the game broadcast live on ESPN+ and over the airwaves on ESPN The Fan.
The Wolverines enter the matchup at 7–3 overall and riding strong momentum following a 73–69 home win over Idaho State on Wednesday night. The victory extended Utah Valley's home winning streak to 16 games, the fifth-longest active streak in the nation, and marked UVU's fifth win in its last six outings. Isaac Davis and Jackson Holcombe each scored 18 points in the win, while Noah Taitz secured the game-clinching rebound and free throws in the final seconds.
Saturday's contest marks Utah Valley's first-ever game at Delta Center and a return to neutral-site play following a demanding stretch that included road trips to San Diego State and Bowling Green, along with two neutral-site contests at the Cancún Challenge. UVU is coming off one of its most complete road performances of the season — an 82–71 win at Bowling Green — where the Wolverines forced 20 turnovers, dominated transition play, and earned a résumé-boosting Quad 2 victory.
Utah Valley continues to post elite national numbers on both ends of the floor. Through games of Dec. 11, the Wolverines rank 13th nationally in assists per game, 15th in field goal percentage, 13th in blocks per game, 25th in steals per game, and 34th in scoring margin. Individually, Trevan Leonhardt ranks among the nation's top facilitators at ninth nationally in assists per game, while Tyler Hendricks ranks ninth in three-point percentage and Jackson Holcombe is tied for the national lead in double-doubles.
Holcombe was recently named WAC Player of the Week, leading Utah Valley in scoring and rebounding while ranking among the conference and national leaders in efficiency and defensive impact. The redshirt sophomore forward has been a steady presence in the frontcourt, anchoring UVU's paint production and physical play.
UC Santa Barbara enters Saturday's contest at 8–2 overall and riding a five-game winning streak. The Gauchos sit at No. 160 in the NET rankings and No. 140 in KenPom, and are coming off a 109–84 win over CSU Bakersfield. UCSB averages more than 80 points per game and ranks among the national leaders in free-throw percentage and three-point shooting.
The Gauchos are led by Aidan Mahaney, who averages 15.6 points per game and recently swept Big West, Lou Henson, and USBWA National Player of the Week honors. Colin Smith and Zion Sensley provide additional scoring punch, while Miro Little directs the offense from the point guard position.
Saturday marks the third all-time meeting between Utah Valley and UC Santa Barbara and the first since 2008. While the Gauchos hold a 2–0 edge in the series, the programs are set to become familiar foes moving forward, as Utah Valley prepares to join the Big West Conference, where UCSB is a long-standing member.
Utah Valley enters the weekend ranked No. 63 in the NCAA NET rankings, the top mark among current WAC members and the third-highest among Division I programs in the state of Utah. Saturday's neutral-site matchup presents another opportunity for the Wolverines to continue building a postseason résumé against a quality mid-major opponent.
