The Western Athletic Conference announced its weekly women's basketball awards, with Utah Valley's
Kaylee Headrick earning WAC Newcomer of the Week honors. Abilene Christian guard Payton Hull was named the conference's Player of the Week.
Â
"I'm really proud of the progress Kaylee has made this season, and I love that she's being recognized for her hard work," said UVU head coach
Dan Nielson. "It is definitely a well-deserved honor for her. Her aggressiveness and rebounding really helped us secure the win at Kansas City last week. I'm excited to see her growth as we finish up the preseason and move into conference play."
Â
Headrick recorded a double-double in Saturday's win at Kansas City, finishing with 18 points to tie a career high and a career-best 11 rebounds. The Bluffdale native was key in the second half, scoring 12 of her 18 points to help the Wolverines secure the road victory. The honor is the first WAC award for Headrick, who is in her first season with the program after stints at the College of Southern Idaho and Colorado State. She enters Tuesday's contest averaging 8.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.
Â
Utah Valley will be in action twice this week at the UCCU Center, closing out nonconference play against La Sierra on Dec. 16 and Idaho State on Saturday, Dec. 20.
