RENO, Nev. — Four Utah Valley University wrestlers placed at Sunday's Reno Tournament of Champions as 10 student-athletes across nine weight classes made the trip on their own to compete unattached.

Hudson Rogers led the way with a third-place finish at 174 pounds, Christian Slack (197) and Q'veli Quintanilla (165) both took fourth, and Jason Worthley was sixth at 149 pounds.

Rogers won three straight matches, including a 13-7 decision over Cal Poly's Ryan Clink to advance to the semifinal, where he fell to Arizona State's Cael Valencia in a 19-4 (5:36) tech fall. In the third-place match, Rogers scored a 13-4 major decision over Grand View's Kris Ketchum.

Slack and Quintanilla also each won their first three matches to advance to the semifinals before each dropped both the semifinal and third-place bout to finish 3-2.

Worthley won his first two matches, both by technical fall, and later defeated Cal Poly's Matthew Luna in a 9-3 decision to pick up his fourth win and advance to the fifth-place match. He dropped a narrow 3-2 decision to Bradan Priest of California Baptist in that match to finish 4-2 on the day.

At 133 pounds, Jake Castagneto went 4-2 on the day and collected a pair of wins by major decision while Christian Smoot went 3-2 at 184 pounds. Also winning multiple matches were Kasey Curtis (141), Tanner Frothinger (157), and Chandler Thompson (184), who were each 2-2. Devin Alarcon (285) was 1-2 with his win coming by fall.

The Wolverines will be back in action at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga on Jan. 3-4.
