OREM, Utah — Utah Valley women's basketball opens the New Year with a pair of WAC home games, beginning Thursday, Jan. 1, against Tarleton State before hosting Abilene Christian on Saturday, Jan. 3. Both games are scheduled to tip off at 2 p.m. MT.

LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley dropped its WAC opener Monday night at California Baptist in Riverside. The Wolverines were unable to overcome a hot-shooting Lancer squad that connected on 15 shots from beyond the arc. Utah Valley found success inside, with center Tessa Chaney finishing with 12 points, while Gracie Sorenson tied a season high with eight points and went 4-for-6 from the free-throw line.
 
SCOUTING THE TEXANS
Tarleton State enters the matchup with a 7-5 record after earning a 66-57 win over UT Arlington in its conference opener Monday night. Gia Adams leads the Texans at 12.7 points per game, while Shadasia Brackens averages 11.6 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest. Brackens recorded a double-double in the WAC opener with 14 points and 11 rebounds against the Lady Mavs. Tarleton State has been strong on the glass, ranking 17th nationally in defensive rebounds per game (30.7).
 
SERIES HISTORY
Thursday's game marks the 10th all-time meeting between the two programs, with Utah Valley holding a 6-3 series advantage, including a 3-0 mark along the Wasatch Front. The Wolverines will host Tarleton State again later this season on Jan. 29 at Lockhart Arena and will travel to Stephenville for a matchup in the new EECU Center on Feb. 26.
