STANFORD, Calif. – No. 2 seed Stanford defeated Utah Valley 3–1 (21–25, 25–21, 25–13, 25–14) on Friday night at Maples Pavilion.
Avery Page led UVU (16–11) with 12 kills, 10 digs, and three blocks. Bountiful native Jordyn Harvey paced Stanford (28–4) with 14 kills as the Cardinal finished with three players in double-figure kills.
The Wolverines opened the first set with back-to-back service aces from
Sami Blackett, taking a 2–0 lead before
Bella Wooden and
Olivia Gloeckner combined for a block on Erika Sayer to go up 3–0. UVU maintained early momentum, pushing ahead 9–5 after an attack error and a kill from Wooden. Stanford later tied the set, but a 4–0 Utah Valley run—highlighted by a block assist from Blackett and Wooden—put the Wolverines ahead 13–9. UVU extended the lead to 20–16 on a block by
Alyvia Jaffa and
Evalyn Chism.
Wooden's ace, the team's fourth of the set, secured the opener for the Wolverines. It marked UVU's—and the WAC's—first set won in the NCAA Tournament since 2021, when Utah Valley took a set off Utah in Provo.
Stanford answered UVU's 4–0 start to the second set with a run of its own, taking a 7–5 lead after consecutive aces. The Wolverines countered with four straight block assists to move back in front 10–8. The Cardinal responded again, using a 6–0 run to take a 15–11 advantage into the media timeout. Blackett ended the run with a kill down the line, cutting the deficit to 16–12. UVU closed within four, but Stanford evened the match 1–1.
The Cardinal controlled the third set to take a 2–1 match lead. Utah Valley used a brief 3–0 burst—featuring kills from Wooden and Page—to cut the deficit to 13–9, but Stanford answered with three block assists. Sayer contributed to all three after previously recording an attack error. Two additional strong stretches from the ACC champions closed out the set.
Page delivered her second ace of the match in the fourth to pull UVU within 7–5, but Stanford replied with a 4–0 swing that forced a Wolverines timeout, capped by a kill from Lizzy Andrew. After trailing 11–5, Utah Valley gained two points on Stanford service errors. The Cardinal's offensive efficiency stretched the margin to 21–9. Wooden and Page added late kills, and Stanford committed two attack errors to make it 22–13. Blackett added a cross-court kill for 23–14 before the Cardinal closed out the match.
The loss ends Utah Valley's season at 16–11, capping one of the program's strongest campaigns in recent years. The Wolverines reached their third NCAA Tournament, secured their first regular-season WAC title and won their third WAC Tournament championship in their final season in the conference before moving to the Big West in 2026.
