LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Utah Valley's David Evans placed sixth while Haiden Drury finished seventh at the prestigious Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Saturday at the Westgate Hotel Paradise Convention Center.

Both wrestlers went 1-1 on Saturday, with medical forfeits affecting both Wolverine wrestlers. Evans took a medical forfeit in the consolation semifinals after defeating South Dakota State's 24th-ranked Alek Martin in his first match. Drury was the beneficiary of a medical forfeit from Cal Poly's fifth-ranked Zeth Romney in the seventh-place match.

"Overall, we had a mixed weekend of results. I'm proud of David and Haiden after dropping tough quarterfinal matches and managing adversity to come back and place at the toughest in-season tournament of the year," head coach Adam Hall said. "Our team as a whole has a lot of growth left and Cliff Keen exposed fundamentals that we have been preaching to and practicing with our guys. I look forward to the next week of work as we prepare for Chattanooga and Iowa."

Evans faced Martin in the consolation quarterfinals with the two exchanging takedowns and escapes for a 4-4 tie after one. An Evans takedown in the second allowed him to carry a 7-6 lead into the third with an early escape in the third accounting for the final score of 8-6.

Drury opened the day with #21/25 Lorenzo Frezz of Columbia in a match that went down the final seconds. Frezza got a takedown and Drury an escape for a 3-1 first with a Drury escape accounting for the only scoring of the second. Late in the third, with Frezza nursing a 4-2 lead, Drury initially had a takedown awarded with just seconds to go but that was waived off after a coaches' challenge, allowing Frezza to escape with the 4-3 win.

Up next for Utah Valley is the Uncivil War where they'll compete in duals against Chattanooga and No. 4 Iowa at Hannibal High School in Hannibal, Missouri.
