PHOENIX — Utah Valley dropped its first two games at the Littlewood Classic on Friday, falling to Belmont 13-3 and No. 25 Washington 15-6 as early-inning deficits proved to be insurmountable.
Megan Gibbs hit a three-run homer in the opener against the Bruins, moving her into sole possession of second place on the UVU career home run list. Gibbs now needs just five more home runs to break the current record of 41, currently held by Amanda Robinson (2011-14).
Tatum Hall hit her first collegiate home run against the Huskies, and Britney Moreno added a grand slam, her first home run of the season.
GAME ONE
Belmont rallied for five runs in the first to take the lead. Gibbs' three-run blast trimmed the lead down to two, but the Wolverines were unable to push across any more runs.
The Bruins plated two in the second and six in the fourth to push the lead into run-rule territory.
GAME TWO
UW took the lead and never looked back with 15 runs across the first three frames. Utah Valley rallied for six in the fifth, but it wasn't enough to extend the game.
Hall led off the inning with a solo homer, then four of the next five batters reached base, including a fielder's choice that resulted in no outs. Moreno then blasted a grand slam over the fence in left.
UP NEXT
