DENVER – Utah Valley sophomore forward Carter Welling has been named the University Credit Union WAC Newcomer of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Welling earns the honor for the third time this season after helping lead the Wolverines to a 70-68 road win over in-state rival Southern Utah on Saturday night.

Welling played a key role in the victory, scoring 17 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field and 7-of-14 from the free throw line. He also added nine rebounds, three blocks, and three steals in 29 minutes of action. The 6-foot-10 forward was a defensive presence in the paint and helped UVU fend off a late SUU rally to secure the team's 13th win in its last 14 games.

The Wolverines have now earned WAC Newcomer of the Week honors in three of the last four weeks.. Welling joins UT Arlington's Lance Ware as the only players in the conference to earn the honor three times this season.

The Wolverines will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 20, for another in-state WAC road matchup against Utah Tech in the Old Hammer Rivalry. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. MT in St. George, with the game streaming live on ESPN+ and broadcast on the Wolverine Sports Network and ESPN The Fan (960 AM/103.9 FM in Utah County, 98.3 FM/101.5 HD2 in Salt Lake County).
