Wolverines Climb to Second at Mesquite Desert Classic

MESQUITE, Nev. – Led by a 5-under-par 67 from Zachary Erskine, the Utah Valley men's golf team fired an impressive 11-under-par 277 in Monday's second round of the Mesquite Desert Classic at Casablanca Resort. The Wolverines climbed one spot on the 12-team leaderboard to second place heading into Tuesday's final round.

Utah Valley sits at 15-under-par 561 (284-277) after two rounds, just five strokes behind leader Eastern Kentucky (-21).

"A very nice round by the boys today," said Utah Valley head coach Chris Curran. "Zac stepped up and gave us a great number. We are going to need a good one tomorrow to finish this thing off. Dane is in a great spot to get his third victory in a row."

Dane Huddleston carded a 2-under-par 70 in round two and remains in second place on the 64-player leaderboard with a two-round total of 9-under-par 135 (65-70). Huddleston recorded five birdies on the day, including four on the back nine, and is just one stroke behind Eastern Kentucky's Anders Larson (-10) for the individual lead.

Ryan Seamons shot a 3-under-par 69 in round two, moving up one spot into a tie for fifth at 6-under-par 138 (69-69). Seamons eagled the 507-yard par-5 second hole and added three birdies on the day.

Andrew Hawk posted a 1-under-par 71, climbing two spots into a tie for 24th at even-par 144 (73-71) behind a five-birdie performance.

Erskine's 5-under-par 67 was Utah Valley's best round of the day, vaulting him 30 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 24th at even-par 144 (77-67).

Ethan Efford finished with a 2-over-par 74 and remains in a tie for 54th at 7-over-par 151 (77-74), while Isaiah Ellis, competing as an individual, sits in 60th at 9-over-par 153 (72-81) after a second-round 81.

The Wolverines will look to chase down Eastern Kentucky in Tuesday's final round, set to begin at 10 a.m. MT. Live scoring is available at Scoreboard.Clippd.com.
