ATHENS, Ga. — Lily Riley tossed a complete game, striking out seven, Angelique Mann drove in two, and Tatum Hall extended her reached base streak to eight games to lead Utah Valley to a 5-1 win over the Buffalo Bulls on Saturday morning at Jack Turner Softball Stadium.
Riley's win is the first of her young collegiate career, and her seven strikeouts are a career high. Riley shut out the Bulls through the first five frames before surrendering just the one run in the sixth.
Tatum Hall has reached base in all but two games so far this season, and has a hit in all but three. Hall is tied for second on the team with four walks so far this season, and is tied for the team lead with 11 hits.
The two sides traded zeroes through the first two and a half frames until the Wolverines were able to rally for two in the bottom of the third, all with two outs. Britney Moreno reached on an infield single, then was tripled home by Tatum Hall. After a walk by Megan Gibbs, Mann poked a single down the right field line to score Hall.
Utah Valley doubled the lead to 4-0 in the fifth with two more runs, the first of which scored in strange fashion. The Wolverines loaded the bases with one out, then Mann hit a pop up to short. None of the Buffalo defenders were able to make the catch and the ball dropped untouched, allowing all three runners to advance, but Mann was called out due to the infield fly rule. The second run came across when Tatum Hall was able to score on a wild pitch.
The Bulls got on the board in the sixth with one in the sixth, but the Wolverines were able to get that run right back. Brooklyn Ricci hit a one-out double to right center, then advanced to third on an infield single by Amber Rodriguez. Moreno brought Ricci home via a groundout to first.
