Wolverines Host Streaking UT Arlington Thursday at UCCU Center

UTAH VALLEY HOSTS STREAKING UT ARLINGTON ON THURSDAY NIGHT AT UCCU CENTER
  • Utah Valley returns home to host UT Arlington on Thursday night at the UCCU Center. The Mavericks enter the game on a four-game win streak. UVU looks to bounce back after falling at Grand Canyon on Saturday night. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. MT, and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and carried on the Wolverine Sports Network and ESPN The Fan (960 AM/103.9 FM in Utah County, 98.3 FM/101.5 HD2 in Salt Lake County).
     
  • Utah Valley saw its 10-game win streak come to an end with a 75-57 road loss to Grand Canyon on Saturday night at Global Credit Union Arena. Dominick Nelson led UVU with 16 points, while Osiris Grady added 12. The Wolverines trailed by just two midway through the first half before GCU used a 14-2 run to take control. UVU was only able to get as close as 12 points in the second half but couldn't cut the deficit to single digits. The loss drops UVU to 15-7 overall and into a tie with GCU atop the WAC standings at 7-1.
     
  • Utah Valley has been dominant at home this season, holding a perfect 8-0 record at the UCCU Center while outscoring opponents by an average of 23.5 points per game. The Wolverines have shot an impressive 52.4% from the field and 40.3% from three while averaging 85.9 points per contest. UVU has also been dominant on the glass, outrebounding opponents 41.4 to 29.9 per game and blocking 8.8 shots per game. Key home wins include a 72-64 victory over Grand Canyon and a 75-69 win over California Baptist.
     
  • Utah Valley recently had a 10-game win streak that spanned from Dec. 18 to Feb. 1, beginning with nonconference road wins at Idaho State and Weber State before a dominant home victory over Bethesda. The Wolverines then opened WAC play with seven straight wins, including key victories over Abilene Christian, Grand Canyon, California Baptist (twice), UT Arlington, Utah Tech, and Seattle U. The streak featured a thrilling overtime road win at UT Arlington and a marquee home win over GCU on Jan. 9. During the stretch, UVU shot 48.3 percent from the field, outscoring opponents by an average of 78.9 to 66.1 while adding 38.6 rebounds and 6.7 blocks per game.

BROADCAST INFORMATION
Thursday night's game against UT Arlington will be broadcast live on ESPN+, with Brandon Crow and Josh Kallunki the call with Michael Goodkind on the sidelines. The broadcast is available on the ESPN app and at ESPNplus.com. The game will also be broadcast over the air waves on the Wolverine Sports Network with Jim McCulloch on the call. The radio broadcast will be aired live on ESPN 960 AM/103.9 FM in Utah County and 98.3 FM/105.1 (HD2) in Salt Lake City, with a live stream available at ESPNtheFan.com. Brice Larson will host the pregame, halftime, and postgame radio show for the game.

ABOUT UT ARLINGTON
UT Arlington enters Thursday's matchup at Utah Valley with an 11-11 overall record and a 4-4 mark in WAC play. The Mavericks have won four straight games, including a 73-71 victory over Utah Tech in their last outing. UTA looks to avenge an 85-83 overtime loss to UVU on Jan. 16 in Arlington. The Mavericks rank among the WAC's top three-point shooting teams, leading the league in three-pointers made per game (9.0) and three-point percentage (36.6%). UTA also thrives in transition, ranking first in the WAC in fast break points per game (12.4). Forward Lance Ware is the team's leader, averaging 14.8 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game while ranking third in the WAC in double-doubles. Guard Jaden Wells adds 12.8 points per game and leads the conference in total three-pointers made (63), shooting 37.3% from deep. Brody Robinson has been a key playmaker, averaging 9.7 points and a team-best 4.3 assists per game. The Mavericks have been competitive on the boards, ranking third in the WAC in rebounding (36.8 per game), but struggle with turnovers, ranking near the bottom of the league in turnover margin (-1.0). UTA is 3-7 on the road this season where it has lost three of its four WAC road games.

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE MAVS
Utah Valley and UT Arlington will meet for the eighth time on Thursday evening. UTA holds a 4-3 all-time advantage in the series. The two teams faced off earlier this season, with UVU earning an 85-83 overtime victory in Arlington on Jan. 16. Last season, UTA swept the series, including a 78-65 win in Orem on March 2, 2024. The Wolverines are 1-2 all-time against UTA at home and 2-2 in games played in Arlington.

Texas native Kylin Green went the full length of the floor in five seconds and dished to Jackson Holcombe, who scored in the final second of overtime to lift Utah Valley to a thrilling 85-83 road victory over UT Arlington on Jan. 16 at College Park Center. 

Dominick Nelson led the way with a career-high 25 points, while Tanner Toolson added a season-high 22 points to fuel the Wolverines. Nelson scored his 25 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field and an impressive 13-of-16 at the free throw line. He also contributed five assists, four rebounds, and a block.

UTAH VALLEY RUNS INTO BUZZSAW AT GRAND CANYON

A PERFECT 10

The Wolverines opened WAC play 7-0 before falling at Grand Canyon on Feb. 3, marking their best start in league play since 2013-14, when they also started 7-0 before finishing 13-3 to claim the WAC regular-season championship in their first year in the conference. The longest win streak in Utah Valley history came during the 2003-04 season, when the Wolverines won 14 straight games against a schedule that primarily featured non-Division I opponents during the program's transition to Division I. The longest streak while playing a full Division I schedule was an 11-game run during the 2022-23 season.

HOME SWEET HOME!
Utah Valley has been dominant at home this season, holding a perfect 8-0 record at the UCCU Center while outscoring opponents by an average of 23.5 points per game. The Wolverines have shot an impressive 52.4% from the field and 40.3% from three while averaging 85.9 points per contest. UVU has also been dominant on the glass at home, outrebounding opponents 41.4 to 29.9 per game and blocking 8.8 shots per game. Key home wins include a 96-80 win over UTE, a 72-64 victory over Grand Canyon and a 75-69 win over California Baptist.

THE PERFECT JANUARY
Utah Valley closed out January with a perfect 7-0 record, marking the first time the Wolverines have gone unbeaten in a single month since going 8-0 in December 2022. UVU's flawless January run included four home victories and three road wins, highlighted by a thrilling 85-83 overtime win at UT Arlington and a 72-64 victory over WAC preseason favorite Grand Canyon. The last time Utah Valley accomplished the feat, the Wolverines dominated December 2022 with eight straight wins, including a 77-72 road upset at Oregon and a 75-60 win at BYU. 

UVU CONTINUES TO RECEIVE VOTES IN COLLEGEINSIDER.COM MID-MAJOR TOP-25
Utah Valley has fallen out of the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 in the latest poll but continues to receive recognition with 23 votes in the "Others Receiving Votes" category. The Wolverines (15-7) had previously entered the rankings at No. 25 following a 10-game win streak and a perfect 7-0 start in WAC play.

BLOCK PARTY IN OREM
Utah Valley continues to dominate the paint, now ranking 4th in the nation in blocks per game, averaging 6.0 swats per contest (as of Jan. 31). Eleven different Wolverines have recorded at least one block this season, showcasing the team's collective defensive prowess.

Carter Welling leads the way with 35 total blocks, ranking 32nd nationally in blocks per game (1.84). Hayden Welling follows with 17 blocks, while Cory Wells has added 16.

UVU's defensive dominance in the paint has been a key factor in its strong start to WAC play and 10-game win streak, as the Wolverines continue to protect the rim at an elite level.
