DAVIS, Calif. — Utah Valley dropped its first two games of the 2025 season, falling to the Idaho State Bengals 11-6 before getting blanked 3-0 by the host UC Davis Aggies in the nightcap.
Megan Gibbs hit her first home run of the season against the Bengals, and is now six away from setting the UVU career record. Britney Moreno went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Amber Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Cam Davis pitched a total of five innings across the two games, four of which were scoreless before getting touched up for three against the Aggies.
GAME ONE
After jumping out to a 5-1 lead, the Bengals rattled off seven runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to take the lead for good.
Idaho State struck first in the second after a leadoff single came around to score via some well-executed small ball.
The Wolverines took advantage of a plethora of free passes in their half of the second to put four runs on the board. After the bases were loaded without a hit, Avery Sapp roped a line drive down the line for a sac fly. Amber Rodriguez then smashed a triple up the gap in right center to bring home the other two runners. Britney Moreno capped the rally with an RBI single through the left side.
Moreno brought home another run for UVU in the fourth with a second RBI single to drive in Sapp.
The Bengals pushed across seven runs before recording an out in the fifth to take the lead, then added a trio of runs in the sixth to pull away. Megan Gibbs got the Wolverines within two with a solo homer in the fifth, but that was the closest they would get.
GAME TWO
The nightcap was a pitcher's duel from the start, with Cam Davis getting the start in the circle. Including the final inning of the game against Idaho State, Davis pitched four shutout innings before UC Davis was able to push two runs across in the fourth to take the lead for good. The Aggies picked up a third run in the fifth.
