Utah Valley travels to Logan to face in-state rival Utah State

3/11/2025 1:00:00 PM

Utah Valley plays its first of 11 games against in-state opponents on Wednesday when the team travels to Logan to face the Utah State Aggies at LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. MDT, and the game will be streamed live on the Mountain West Network. Live stats will be available at UVUStats.com.

LAST TIME OUT

The Wolverines opened WAC play with a 1-2 weekend at California Baptist that included a 6-1 win in the series finale on Saturday. The Lancers took the first two games, 8-6 and 5-3 respectively.

Junior 1B Emma Haygood continued her breakout season with an .875 weekend at the plate, going 7-for-8 with three doubles and six RBIs. Haygood's .389 batting average and 13 RBIs lead the team.

Senior UTL Megan Gibbs inched her way closer to history on Saturday with her 4th homer of the season. Gibbs now needs just 3 more homers to set the UVU career record.

Sophomore RHP Cam Davis pitched 6.2 scoreless innings of relief over the weekend, striking out 8 and allowing just 4 hits across 3 appearances. Saturday's outing was the best of her young career, striking out 5 over 4 innings to earn her first collegiate win.

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Entering the week, Utah Valley boasts a .979 fielding percentage, which ranks 2nd in the WAC — behind only CBU — and 10th in the nation. The Wolverine defense has improved drastically since last year, when the team's fielding percentage ranked 226th nationally.

SERIES HISTORY VS UTAH STATE

Utah State has won the last two and four of the last five meetings between the two teams. The Aggies won last season's lone meeting 10-5 in Orem. UVU's last win came in 2022, a come-from-behind walk-off win in Orem. The Wolverines' last win in Logan came in 2021, a 2-1 pitcher's duel with UVU plating the winning run in the 7th inning. USU leads the series 28-14, and 23 of the 42 all-time meetings have been decided by 3 or fewer runs.

SCOUTING THE AGGIES

The Aggies come into Wednesday's game with a 13-10 record, and like Utah Valley, have played all their games thus far away from home. Utah State has had one of the most potent offenses in the country at 6.43 runs per game, but the pitching hasn't matched that pace with a 6.17 team ERA thus far. Among the Aggie leaders is former All-WAC outfielder Olivia Marble, who spent the last two years at Abilene Christian.

UP NEXT

Utah Valley will open the home season on Friday, hosting the Grand Canyon Lopes at Wolverine Softball Field. First pitch of Friday's doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m. MT, and all three games will be shown live on ESPN+.

UVU softball is pleased to offer free admission to all home games this season. Due to the ongoing construction of the concession and restroom facilities, seating capacity will be limited with some seating areas having obstructed views.  ADA accessible seating is available on the tennis courts and baseball stadium balcony overlooking the softball field.
